The whole point of easter is to worship Ishtar, from which the name easter us derived. Dying your eggs is, especially when done with red colored dye, equivalent to no less than sending your kids through the fire before Moloch.

Anyways, all joking aside...what is your interpretation of the myth of resurrection? What is your take on it, particularly in regards the literal/symbolic aspects?

My 1st response to you is why do you call the RESURRECTION a myth? We'll go from there.

Really difficult to explain. I don't mean it in the manner it is usually meant...ie, something synonymous with a falsehood...which is not what the word really means.
I mean it, vaguely, to mean anything that is believed independent of proof...typically something that involves ritual, in whatever form.
Then again, that's not a good definition either. At all.

First off, Ishtar was a really bad movie starring Dustin Hoffman and Warren Beatty and I don't celebrate Easter in honor of motion picture bombs.

Second, Easter is derived from Ostra, the Scandinavian name for the "Spring Goddess," or Eostre (the Anglo-Saxon term).

Third, the eggs represent a life and the resurrection. The shell is the casket from which the dead emerge and come back to life.

Fourth, "Moloch" is an arguable deity. I've heard a number of discussions concerning "Moloch" being a sun-god for the Canaanites or another name for Yahweh when child sacrifices were being offered in the Old Testament (according to some Hebrew scholars) or the Sumerian god Baal. I don't really know. But just as I don't say "Allah," neither do I say "Moloch." So, I'll leave that name out of my Easter thoughts, thank you.

And finally, if it's not on Snopes.com, I challenge you to prove the Resurrection is a myth.

I'm referencing the extreme Christians who attack easter as being a pagan holiday...and there are quite a few...and their argument stems from what I posted.

What I said in the beginning of my message was not my own words.
I'm shocked no one else has ever heard of this...a large/vocal group of christians believe easter to be a pagan holiday, and they typically get particularly vocal in regards to this point right around this time, spewing out all sorts of half truthes re: the origins of easter, etc, etc...generally to the end of condemning the Catholic church.
And that's what I was referencing by calling those involved in its practice "pagans". It was entirely sarcastic.

Well I hope so! Because I do not like seeing ppl being insulted, beaten up or otherwise hurt which it sure as heck sounds like is going on here and has been for 4 days. For His sake can we all not just get along????
