Seems I offened someone before my hard drive crashed....it was in my NUKE 'EM ALL thread, about the Iraqis threating to burn the hostages alive. I called them ragheads, for that, to whom ever I offended, I apologize. Being in the Navy back in the mid 70's, I did a tour of duty in the Middle East, even being a Christian, I quickly grew to become very prejiduce against the people of "some" Middle Eastern decendents and after that article I posted, that came out in me AGAIN!

Once again, sorry to those I offended, I will watch what I say the next time and keep my opinions to myself!

I understand Dennis. It isn't the majority of people in the middle East that give them a bad name, but the one's that cause trouble cause enough to bring a bad name on all of them.

Dennis, I find myself...at times...prejudice against the people of "some" Middle Eastern descendents, too...like out in public at a store and seeing men with their wives and the women in their "full" attire. Also a born-again Believer...so you're not by any means the only one, Brother...who by human nature during these times...have to take a second look every now and then while in society.

I myself have made the same utterances. It proves we are human, especially in the post-9/11 world.

We all know you're a good man and didn't mean to offend anyone. As frustrating as these times are, it's easy to see why you said what you did. You're a good man for apologizing. I really mean that.

Ditto. Although I try to keep it to myself, I catch myself thinking the term "camel jockey" (usually prefixed with "mf'ing") in anger when I see OBL on the news or when they showed the charred bodies of the dead Americans on the bridge.

"Camel Jockey?" ROFL!!!! That is a first for me.

I feel inclined to grab the towel, give it a quick tug and send them spinning like a top.

I know, I guess it seems kinda tame, but for me it serves the purpose and it flows when you say it (or think it) along with the MF prefix. And, like Dennis, I don't apply it to all middle easterners either. It's reserved for those jerks over there who torture, kill, and slaughter innocent people.

Let's put some of this on the lap of who deserves it-the Media. It works both ways and when all the public sees are pictures and reports of the 5% who are dirt bag kidnappers, rapers, torturers, etc; and the 95% that would welcome us with open arms are treated as non existent; then one begins to lump them all into the same category. It is irksome to see them trying to act like desperados while at the same time covering their faces because they are far more chickensh*t cowards than real tough hombres. Try kidnapping a tank to show how tough you are instead of some poor soul unarmed construction worker who is really only trying to help your woebegotten country.

Based on the context of his post, I am certain that Dennis was not using the term to show prejudice against Middle Easterners. He was using it as a epithet against radical Islamic terrorists, who just happen to be Middle Eastern also.

I know people who are prejudiced against blacks but you'd never hear them use the "n" word. I know people who are prejudiced against gays but you'd never hear them use the "f" word. Regardless of what lexicon they use, some people are filled with hatred and bigotry towards those particular groups of people. Someone can say "homosexual" and I'd know they were talking about gays. But if they say it in a hateful tone, I'd know in a heartbeat that they are trying to express disgust or animosity. They wouldn't have to say f** or d*** for me to have a clue.

Sure, Dennis used a somewhat extreme word for the terrorists, but that is exactly who he was directing it towards and therefore, his comment was not racist nor xenophobic. Furthermore, he apologized for his use of the word and for any misunderstanding it may have caused. Should he be forgiven? Sure. That's what forgiveness is all about.

He apologized, and thus the issue should be dropped IMO. The use of that prejudiced term was inexcusably wrong but he has admitted this and it's time to move on.

Simple, the old one was deleted because my viewpoint was unpopular with the mods.

Agreed, I was just addressing an overall trend I have seen, not particular to him.
