According to the reports, between 2 and four wells are burning, and even these were sabotaged "locally", rather than Saddam's reputed "push a button, all go up at once" scenario.

Southern Iraqi oil fields on fire
Not clear whether flames a result of explosions by Iraqis

NEAR THE KUWAIT-IRAQ BORDER, March 20 — Orange flames could be seen Thursday on the horizon in the direction of the southern Iraqi oil center Basra, and U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said three or four oil wells may have been set afire. Witnesses in Kuwait about eight miles south of the border said the flickering flames were spotted after a series of explosions that shook buildings in the area.

this war ain't about oil...we can cap them like we did last time. Bush said he didn't care if they did but didn't encourage it. But we will take care of it.
