Sitting and Thinking on my Front Porch

As some of you might know, I bought my Grandparents house after they passed away in 2002. The house had never been owned by anyone other than my family, so I sold my house and bought this one.

My grandparents were married for 65 years, and lived every year of it in this house.

I can remember spending the days over here during the summer when both by parents were working. I would help Grandpa in the yard, or help Grandma make pies and cakes (well I sampled more than I helped).

I would sit out on the front porch and watch the storms move in with my Grandpa. He loved weather, which is where I probably got this hobby from. Tuesday night as I was watching the lightning from a approaching storm, it was almost like Grandpa was there with me. It was an awesome feeling, which I will never forget.

I know this post might seem kinda sappy, but I just had to share it with you great people.

Jeff... I know what you mean. And it doesn't seem sappy at all. Those feelings are the ones you should always treasure. They make you who you are. :multi:

Jeff, it's wonderful that you are keeping the house in your family. And you have these lovely memories to look back upon. I'm happy for you. :)

It was my father who taught me to watch and feel and immerse myself in weather. Like your grandpa, we would watch the sky together when a storm approached. I have 8mm movies (now made into video) of the two of us sweeping the snow off his '67 Chevy with a broom and then heading out into the worst of it with tire chains and shovels.

Your grandfather gave you a gift that did not end with his passing...and he would be proud to know that you shared that story, HIS story, YOUR story with others who appreciate the sky AND appreciate the value of family and friends.

Nothing sappy about those special moments in life. I suspect grandpa will be with you on that porch watching those storms for a long long time.
