OK, last night between 10 and 10:30 PM, me and my friends were setting off some fireworks. Nothing illegal, or so I thought, you know, things that they sold at tents around the area. But, neighbors next to us were setting off bottle rockets and crap like that, which IS illegal. Then, I see a cop pull up and come walking into the yard...and this is what he said.

"I'm going to tell you the same thing I told your neighbors. We've been getting calls of people trying to sleep. (DEADLOOK) Also anything that is propelled into the air is illegal. So either put them away for the night, or I'll take them."

OK...people sleeping at 10:00 PM on a FOURTH OF JULY weekend? Come on! I couldn't believe that. Then my friend's dad looked fireworks up and it said all fireworks (even sparklers!) are illegal in PA... ???

What's funnt here in Florida is that it isn't illegal to sell any type of fireworks but it is to use them. What kind of sence does that make?

Fireworks are dangerous. Amatuers shouldn't be setting them off...

LOL... sleep before Midnight on July 4th is a joke. It wasn't too bad here last night though. Had I been asleep, I would have slept through it.

Sorry to give you bad news, Colin, but people trying to sleep at 10 or 10:30 at night is not unusual. I had to work today which meant I had to be up at 3:45 am. Same thing tomorrow. So I'm usually in bed by 8:30 or 9:00 pm each and every night. I know it's a holiday but there are thousands of people who don't get weekends and holidays off.

Even the professional fireworks displays are dangerous. 3 kids found one at the beach last year that was a part of the fireworks display. They tried to light it and it blew up, burning them.

It is illegal to shoot fireworks within the city limits here in Pascagoula. But, you can buy them all over the city. LOL!!

I know in GA, if you are caught with fireworks they will confiscate them and take you to jail. Alot of Georgians will go to Alabama and buy them only to be arrested when they cross back in to GA. hehe.

Yeah. I live in Alabama, but only one mile from Georgia and we saw more Georgia folks at the fireworks stand Friday than Alabama folks, LOL

Same thing with Massachusetts residents going into New Hampshire. I am not sure if it goes
as far as arresting people for bringing them over the state line, but I believe they are ticketed.

"AMEN!" I too, am in bed at 2030 hrs ESPECIALLY this weekend, pulling 14 hour SHIFTS chasing people with ILLEGAL fireworks is hard work. So...with that said, your neighbors had EVERY right to call law enforcement.

Also Colin, there probably is a city ordinance agains loud noises after a certain time (usually it can vary from 8 to midnight) until the morning. That is probably where their validity in calling came in.

IMO no one should even have fireworks on your mountain period! I just feel if they are illegal then the police should enforce it.

My cousin at the age of 12 had a bottle rocket malfunction and it stuck to her face. She had third degree burns. My Father would get us sparklers until my brother burned his fingers.

Some cities have the noise ordinance (after 10 P.M). Other cities (like mine) call it disturbing the peace and there is no set time limit.

All fireworks should wait until July 4th anyways....

My city is one of several in the area who sponsor a fourth of July fireworks display. It's put on by pyrotechnicians who do this for a living and therefore know the safest way to do them

And as I type this, I just watched a firetruck rush down the street - more than likely to assist some homeowner who had the unfortunate experience of having fireworks land on their house. We haven't had substantial rain for weeks - everything is so dry.

I'm also worrying that my poor dog is getting ready to have a heart attack because of the noise. He's so upset that he's puking bile all over the place.

Yup, the pyrotechnicians who bring us the fireworks on the Fourth absolutely ROCK!

Could you imagine having a job where everyone cheers and applauds and hoots and hollers for you as you work, while you shower them with starbursts and fireflowers and glitterspheres and pompoms and erupting rings and shooting stars and spirals, weeping willows, and waterfalls of light and rockets that trail up and out and down and all sort of other booming, popping, colorful amazing spectacles!

Okay, if you can't tell...I had a blast! And after the big finale, one of the guys in the crowd near us on the beach yelled SOOOOO loud, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMERICA!" and everybody cheered again!

It rocked!

Here, they have the "public" fireworks displays, and it IS legal to sell and set off certain classes of "home-consumption" stuff (Roman candles and heavy stuff..."M-80's", etc. are banned)...the neighborhood smells like a Civil War reenactment is taking place.

Annabelle (she be a ho') LIKES the pretty colors...

go light some on your neighbors porch at 3AM. one more example of "minority rules". probably ugly as anything too thus needing all the beauty sleep they can get.
