Al-Qaeda: Italy is Next Target
A purported Al-Qaeda statement has threatened attacks in Italy.
Politics: 8 July 2004, Thursday. A purported Al-Qaeda statement has threatened Italy will be its next target in retaliation for the policy of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. The statement, written in poor Italian and believed to be by Osama bin Laden, has been published in an Islamist site and included in the evening news broadcast of an Italian TV channel.
To all who speak Italian, starts the statement, written with numerous grammar and spelling mistakes and published together with a text in Arabic. This is the first time that Al-Qaeda threatened the Italians in their own native language. At the beginning of July Paris and Rome announced they are taking terror threats against European targets very seriously. "We're taking these threats seriously," Berlusconi told reporters back then, noting that Italian security forces had 14,000 sites under surveillance.

Not good news.

Italy's government is slowly becomming like Spain and France. Socialist countries...Communisim slowly creeping up on the European countries. A collapse of these governents would be disasterous.

I'm not blaming anyone but our PM. He decided to be GWB's clown
despite people's will. We all know this war is wrong and has did nothing against global terror, except enforcing it.
None of us is safe, we know it already. Let's hope our intelligence shows
more intelligence than others...

Your PM was actually smart enough to help America fight for the safety of the world. Italy wasnt a country that hid in fear...they stood up and helped america. God bless them...you should be more thankful for your Country and PM.

You should live in Italy... The Italian people is against war in Iraq,
(that does not mean against America).
In Spain Aznar has been fired by the people, because he lied to them
and pushed Spain in a war regardeless of people's voice.
Berlusconi did the same.

It is a known fact that Americans are hated in your country.

You'd better change yr sources Linda, there are some extremists that see America as the mother of all evils, but they're a minority. Disagree does not mean hate.
Ask those that had travelled to Italy how much hated they felt here...

Nobody ever expected terror to end overnight. We all knew this was going to be a long war. Isn't that what Bush said from the beginning? I don't understand why some people refuse to acknowledge that.

Seems like the Italian Gov't is always on the verge of collapse. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that it's usually a coalition of a major party with several minor parties. A flighty minor party can be enough to topple a govt.
