The "old grey lady" is about to drop a bombshell. I'd be interested to hear what the people on this board think about this because Cheney is a very strong conservative voice in this administration.

NYT PAGE ONE THURS: BUSH TO DROP CHENEY GOSSIP
Wed Jul 14 2004 18:21:14 ET

The latest theory about Vice President Dick Cheney's future on the Republican ticket, advanced privately by prominent Democrats, including members of Congress, holds that Cheney recently dropped his personal doctor because of drug addiction so that he could hire a new one, who will conveniently tell him in August that his heart problems have made him unfit to run with Bush!

So reports the NEW YORK TIMES, in a planned Front Page story on Thursday.

Reporter Elisabeth Bumiller is set to kick the gossip into high gear with a 1,600-word speculative, newsroom sources tell DRUDGE.

We'll just have to wait and see if it happens or not. To me, it's just speculation.

Well, I predict that the Republicans are going to pull a rabbit out of their hat. I predict that Cheney will be dumped and John McCain will run with Bush. Theirs was a nasty campaign for President in 2000, but I think McCain would do it for the party and to ensure a 2nd term in the white house. This may be the "October surprise", but it may happen before the convention. Just my theory.

There's also been a discussion about Guiliani replacing Cheney. I agree with your hunch as well kittcat!

This would have to happen in August because Bush/Cheney are nominated in August and that's it. The RNC would have to hold another convention to appoint a new vice presidential nominee. It'd make more sense to do it in August and hope that the bounce from it lasts a while. Doing it in October makes Bush look desperate when he probably doesn't need to be (I'm a Kerry supporter but I think Bush is in far better shape than the media and especially Rainstorm thinks-Rainstorm relax. Bush is doing just fine. I just don't see Bush being thrown out as much as I want to see that happen). Plus in October, Bush/Cheney are on all the ballots and advance voting is taking place. It wouldn't work.
