Martha gets 5 months in prison and 5 months of house arrest.

And still, she refuses to apologize.

And they are appealing. So we shall see. But Im pretty sure she will go to prison however. But she did it so there is nothing wrong with the sentence she got.

Wonder why she won't acknowledge to her wrongdoing? Fess up Martha!

She ought to be glad the judge only gave her 5 months behind bars and not more than that...besides the house arrest.

1 1/2 years of supervised release, 6 months of house arrest, 5 months in a minimum security jail in Connecticut and a $30,000 fine.

I expected a little more jail time, but not all the house arrest/supervised release stuff.

IMO, if she had not been Martha Stewart she would not even be in this mess. This kind of thing happens all the time and will continue to happen.

IMO she got off easy!

I think she got off too easy. They should have given her a stiffer prison sentence like 6mths to a year.. But all that extra stuff makes it sound a little more harsh.. so I guess I'll have to be satisfied lol

I heard talk this morning on Fox that they don't think an appeal will be heard, as this Judge has already made his case....but I don't know about that...having dealt with Appeals Court once before, I don't think the sitting Judge had any say as to whether it could be filed or not.

Linda...what say you on this?

There is no judge that can actually say an appeal can't or won't be heard. If they file an appeal then a judge will decide whether it goes forward. IMO, I believe she has grounds to appeal.

I heard she hired a jail consultant to help her make the transition.

As much as hate to say this (since we're talking about Martha Stewart), I have to agree with that statement. Insider information and trading tips occurs all the time, and as much as bored with Stewart, this is one time that being in the spotlight actually hurt her.

As for the sentencing, it doesn't actually fit the charges, and being in a higher profile probably saved her more jail time. (not to mention, the high $$$ lawyers) ...

She should have left the courtroom in handcuffls, waist chain, and leg irons just like a typical criminal would have after sentencing. She can appeal from jail. And 5 months is a joke.
