Paper or Plastic

When you grocery shop, do you use paper or plastic? We try to use paper....we then reuse them for numerous other things, ie, trash can liners, paint drop clothes, packaging material, wrapping paper, beside, you can't stand the plastic bags up in the back of a pick up

I just tell them to give me whatever, because I can reuse either one.

Generally plastic. They're great for when you walk the dog or empty the litter box!
I even keep them in my car to empty the ashtray and trash.

Plastic 99% of the time. Ocassionally I have my whole order bagged with paper and store them in the pantry- every couple of weeks I present a new bag to the cat *grins* He loves it.

Both - since Krogers' baggers almost always want to use plastic, I let them bag that way. Then I use the plastic to pick up what my brother calls 'land mines', in other words doggie piles.

But I also ask for about 10 paper bags each shop. We try to recyle as much as we can, so in these bags go plastic, glass, paper, cardboard, etc. Our Rumpke recyling truck takes it all, if I sit these bags next to my recyling bin (which is overflowing). This arrangement works well until it may storm or rain. Then I have to remember to run the 6-8 paper bags of recycling items to the curb ~before~ the truck arrives.

My cats love them too! When one goes in there, I love to scoop them up in the bag and see the look on their face! LOL!

I'm a paper fan myself! Most grocery stores DO have both, but you usually have to ask for paper bags. I do as you do, Dennis and recycle them......often take them back to the store to use again.
I'm always sad when I see those plastic bags caught in trees and laying alongside the roadways........may be more convenient for some, but they are not exactly very environmental-friendly!
My daughter always uses huge cloth bags that she takes along when she shops.......she's used to the raised eyebrows, but I admire her convictions!.....p

I use plastic, cause here in Texas, the paper bags sometimes come with roaches in them... I know it sounds gross, but its true... Id have no bugs in my house, and Id like to keep it that way... I also recycle the plastic bags... And I do the same thing that Stephanie does, when the cats play in the bags I pick them up.. They look so goofy...

LOL, YG! Are you one of those who panics whenever you see a Palmetto bug (those big roach-like, outdoor pests that comes in every once in a while -- and flies!). I have a couple of coworkers who scream bloody murder if one manages to find its way into the office.
Cockroaches -- I despise! They're dirty and nasty. Palmettos I can tolerate once in a while because, if I understand correctly, they're tropical outdoor bugs that are trying to get to water and so sometimes they come inside.
Gotta admit, I was shocked the first time I saw one!

We actually use both about evenly.

Roaches are gross, I had them in Hawaii... ick ick ick. But I had geckos too, so that evened the score.
I hang a plastic grocery bag on the side of my fridge to collect everyday kitchen trash and tie it up and toss it in the big trash for collection day. And use them for liners in other cans around the house.
Hey, free trash bags? I can dig it.
If I'm planning to mail a package, I'll get a paper one at one grocery stop or another, then cut it open for wrapping paper.

I get plastic and reuse them too. They really come in handy for carrying things around. I have a whole cabinet devoted to plastic bags, lol.
About the palmetto bug thing, I nearly peed myself the first time I saw one. They're like flying cockroachs! I hate them with a passion, but you seem every once in awhile in FL. Guess I'm learning to deal with it, lol.

One thing I never quite understood -- the whole environmental argument. I mean, plastic bags get reused a lot, as far as I'm concerned. They last longer than the paper ones, they get get wet, they can keep other things dry (when tied up tight in them), and they are recyclable. Paper bags can't get wet, rip easier, and darn it, don't trees get cut down in order to make them?
I suppose that's why really environmentally-conscious people use cloth bags -- so as not to be stuck in that dilemma.
Speaking of dilemma, where's Garrett?

I hate those huge roaches with a passion!!! We get them in the house every so often... They really freak me out! I hate them so much, that if there is one in my bedroom, and my hubby isnt home to kill it, I sleep on the couch... I am scared to death of them... Yuck! Have you noticed, they have been flying alot lately? I noticed the past few weeks they have been flying alot more than I have ever seen them... I get the chills just thinking about them....
