Can I Get Up On A Soapbox For A Moment?

I would just like to say that I would like to open this thread right here and right now for "substantive policy reasons" that should preclude me from voting for John F. Kerry.

I don't want assumptions, name-calling (that is done in almost every thread), or generalizations (aka: john kerry is an idiot and knows nothing!!!), I want facts. I want the cold hard truth right here. Don't spin anything... I want the stone ground reasons right here.

Let's see if those of you for Bush (or against Kerry whichever it may be) can provide posts that are above bashing Kerry. Take the high road of your Republican counterparts of the past and let Kerry's actions speak louder than the hateful rhetoric.

Nope, I asked for reasons to support Bush. And Chad the point of this thread is to point out that you can criticize without being hateful (at least I hope you can).

If you feel like this is a double post, please feel free to delete it, but I think it is imperative that the right speak out now. This board is good about hearing both sides. I have laid out an argument asking them to give me reasons why Kerry is the wrong guy WITHOUT the harsh rhetoric of partisans. Speak to me as a person.

Garret, you're a smart man. Why don't you do the research yourself and make your own decision? You already know how people here feel. Here's something to get you started: http://www.vote-smart.org/voting_catego ... d=S0421103 This site lists the voting record for all members of Congress. I've linked you to Senator Kerry's page. You can look at every issue in recent years and see how he has voted. To me, it's important to know that my elected officials hold values similar to my own. I hope you can find a candidate whose values are like your own.

Jen, Jen, Jen... you have missed the point and it is because I don't think I am explaining myself well enough.

I know where to find where he voted... I understand that. I thank you for trying to lead me in the right direction. :D

I am giving those on this board that constantly attack Kerry a forum to show that they aren't just bashing Kerry for running against Bush but for their disagreements in his policies. Some on this board constantly knock the left down... I wanna know what issues they have beef with. In essence, they talk the talk... now I wanna see them walk the walk.

I was going to say the same thing Chad about already going through this before. We already have many discussions/debates going on already about Kerry vs. Bush. I understand that you want to hear/read the other side's point of view, but it's already been hashed through and probably will be again.

Fact - he voted against making it a crime to kill an unborn child while committing another violent act.

Of course, if you have liberal views on abortion, this isn't going to sway your vote away from Kerry.

all you need to do is watch Fahrenheit 911, and that should give you some idea which way you want to vote.

very good gd......amazing how he can be there for THAT vote.

You now..as long as abortion was brought up...it baffles me how a vast majority of Democrats, care more about preserving the life of the spotted owl, than they do about the life of a human being in the womb.

You asked for disagreements with policies? Well for me, a conservative, this is a major one!

You know, I'm not in love with Bush, but I sure as heck will not support Kerry and here's why:

Votes to give the President the authority to use force in Iraq, THEN, votes against the funding for our troops(that included body armor, which Kerry bashed Bush on last night in his speech). Explains it by saying "I actually did vote for the $87 billion dollars before I voted against it".

He voted for the Patriot act, but now opposes it

He opposed the 1991 Gulf War then, but now says he supports it(I think that's how it goes, it may be the other way around)

Said Iraq had Weapons of Mass Destruction and had to be disarmed several times between 1998 and 2002, now says Bush LIED about it, but not Clinton and his adminstration. Which is it Senator?

Has missed 90% of all votes in the senate this year, including a vote funding our troops. But, he finds time to vote AGAINST the Laci Peterson law that protects pregnant women from violence.

All of this is unforgivable.

If I have been crabby I apologize. If I have been "disrespectful", I apologize. I don't see where I have been either. If you could point it out to me, I would appreciate it.

I presented this thread as a chance for those supporting Bush to show those who are undecided that you aren't just bashers that the Kerry campaign makes you out to be. I am trying to give you all that chance and very few have taken me up on that. Instead you say I am crabby. I am trying to understand your viewpoint and then you get upset with me. I am trying to see the coorelation here. I also gave you opportunity to delete the thread if it was rehashing an old topic.

Garrett - I may be the lone one here that understands where you're coming from! I strongly suspect, that you were/are weary of all the explosive sides, debates, politically speaking. That is why I don't even bother/try to discuss politics. Here on the boards, at parties, get togethers in my own family and husband's family. My husband Jim told me long ago - do what I do - I just don't discuss politics!!! You know what he does? You'll laugh. He changes the conversation to, of all things, weather!!!! Hey we could always discuss Days!!! LOL Seriously though, I think what you're trying to encourage in this topic is probably not possible. Unless you were in a Poli Sci college level class. And even then, I'm sure the atmosphere would become very opinionated.

I don't think that you were being crabby. I guess what I was concerned with was have another bash fest getting started. I do understand why you wanted this topic.

Perhaps the best thing to do if this topic doesn't get up and rolling is to start making specific questions about what you would like to know or understand better.

I'll just ditto Brent's post and add a little more to what duckie and j mentioned - I will never vote for a candidate who supports abortion. Kerry didn't even support Bush's ban on partial-birth abortion. That is sickening to me. It makes no difference to me if the person supporting abortion is Democrat or Republican, I could not vote for that candidate. It just so happens that most Republicans are pro-life and most Democrats aren't. When Kerry was asked if he supported the ban on partial-birth abortion, he responded "I don't support the President's law because it doesn't allow the exception for situations where the health of the woman is at risk. I believe this is a dangerous effort to undermine a woman's right to choose, which is a constitutional amendment I will always fight to protect."
So a woman's right to choose is clearly more important than a baby. I can't relate to that. A woman's convenience is never more important than an innocent child's life.

Well, there's one reason, one very important reason IMO.

This was an important vote as it was an attempt to undermine Roe that had implications beyond the obvious in terms of precedent.

Good Post IMO.

Based on polling numbers so far which could still change, Kerry is appealing much more to independents and swing voters than Bush.

And I think the neo-conservative tactic which is to demonize the Left is one of the main reasons.
