Clinton Predicted a Cakewalk

Many people predicted that we'd go through the Iraqis like the Germans through France. Some of them were former military people; one was Kenneth Adelman of the Reagan crowd. Nobody in the Bush administration did nor did I, but former President William Jefferson Blythe Clinton did.
Quote: "This war is going to be over in a flash, so we can wait to do that. I mean you can always kill somebody next week. You can't bring 'em back next week..." The audience applauded his supposed wisdom.
Clinton thus tried to make the case we could stand for a little bit more diplomacy, let the inspections "work," when he was siding with the French and the Germans and the Russians at the Security Council.
His point was:
Hey, this thing is going to happen in a flash. We're going to kick butt over there, so let's do the diplomacy. Bill Clinton was one of the people out there creating the notion it could be done with a snap of the fingers. If we're going to hold some accountable, let's hold him accountable too.

Hmmm...

No one in the administration said it would be over in a flash. Months (being plural) would be at least 2, so it may very well be over in weeks, not months.
Clinton said it would be over in a flash. A flash is a brief moment. I think most (if not all) people would agree that a flash sounds like a matter of days. (or faster

Yes I know, but Clinton is an idiot!
I think Cheney underestimated the Iraqis.

Why would Clinton start telling the truth now?

and Rush would NEVER distort anything Clinton said now would he?
seems to me that both the administration (thru Dick Cheney) and the former president Clinton thought the war would be over quickly.
and if you think that when VP Cheney said the war would take weeks not months and wasnt expressing the sentiment of the administration (and thereby Pres Bush) you are crazy.
he wouldnt of said it on national TV if it wasnt the feeling of the white house.

Actually, RUSH didn't have to distort anything. It was a direct quote by Clinton.
I don't know who that statement was for, but I never said Cheney wasn't expressing the sentiments of the White House.
I said:

did rush play an entire speech by clinton or a soundbite?
if it was just a sound bite that right there could make it distorted. not playing what he might have said right before or after the quote in question may have clarified it more.
and to me a flash is weeks in terms of a war. no one expected it to be over in days.
lets face facts Rush has a conservative agenda to push and that includes a continuing bashing of the clintons.

Clinton never needed Rush Limbaugh's help to distort the truth...he was doing fine all by himself, thank you very much.

man its amazing how blinded by your own conservatism and hatred for bill clinton you guys can be.
during the clinton years the federal deficits were eliminated, and in fact for the first time in decades the debt was being paid down.
under bill clinton there was a long period of prosperity.
and as far as Hillary goes, she is doing a fine job as the junior senator from the great state of NY. if you even ask members of the republican party in the senate they will say how impressed they are by her and the job she has done.

Rush didn't distort anything. Man, you'll defend that liar till your death, won't you? lol
Clinton said it during one of his speeches, one of the many he has to appease himself in front of an audience.
And YES, Clinton did make it sound like the war would be over with the snap of a finger....on several occasions.
As far as bashing the Clinton's, I don't think being conservative has anything to do with it. They are a wide open target!

"Clinton''s Testimony" by Dr. Seuss
I did not do it in a car
I did not do it in a bar
I did not do it in the dark
I did not do it in the park
I did not do it on a date
I did not ever fornicate
I did not do it at a dance
I did not do it in her pants
I did not get beyond first base
I did not do it in her face
I never did it in a bed
If you think that, you''ve been misled
I did not do it with a groan
I did not do it on the phone
I did not cause her dress to stain
I never boinked Saddam Hussein
I did not do it with a whip
I never fondled Linda Tripp
I never acted really silly
With volunteers like Kathleen Willey
There was one time, with Margaret Thatcher
I chased her ''round, but could not catch her No kinky stuff, not on your life
I wouldn''t, even with my wife
And Jennifer Flowers'' tale of woes
Was paid for by my right-wing foes
And Paula Jones, and those State Troopers
Are just a bunch of party poopers
I did not ask my friends to lie
I did not hang them out to dry
I did not do it last November
But if I did, I don''t remember
I did not do it in the hall
I could have, but I don''t recall
I never did it in my study
I never did it with my dog, Buddy
I never did it to Sox, the cat
I might have -once with Arafat
I never did it in a hurry
I never groped Ms. Betty Currie
There was no sex at Arlington
There was no sex on Air Force One
I might have copped a little feel
And then endeavored to conceal
But never did these things so lewd
At least, not ever in the nude
These things to which I have confessed
They do not count, if we stayed dressed
It never happened with a cigar
I never dated Mrs.Starr
I did not know this little sin
Would be retold on CNN
I broke some rules my Mama taught me
I tried to hide, but now you''ve caught me
But I implore, I do beseech
Do not condemn, do not impeach
I might have got a little tail
But never, never did inhale

does it matter what he said before or after that? What could he have said that would of made the statement mean anything else other than what it says?

david is merely playing the "politics of meaning", just like his hero and heroine did, and in the latter case, still does.
