ATHENS, Greece -- An earthquake was felt in on Athens Tuesday, including throughout the Olympic venues.
Journalists working in the main press center for the games felt the floor of their building quivering. One broadcaster saw his microphone shake as he was preparing to go on the air.
The Athens Geodynamic Institute said the tremor had a preliminary magnitude of 4.5 and occurred at 3:38 p.m. local time. It was centered about 42 miles northeast of Athens, 12 miles beneath the Aegean Sea.
Fire and police departments said there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage anywhere in Greece.
Earthquakes are common in Greece, one of the most seismically active countries in Europe.
