Nuke or Dirty Bomb???

Suppose for a minute that our troops could make a move on Baghdad almost at will...and that over the course of the next few weeks we took relatively good control of much of the city, it commerce, its airport, etc..
Suppose for a minute there were thousands of American troops finally catching some rest in the relative security of a newly acquired city of Baghdad.
Suppose for a minute that the master plan of Saddam Hussein was to recognize that eventuality and, when all seems peacful and secure, the nuke we didn't think he had, the dirty bomb we could not find, the chemical weapons we had been so weary about...show up in the center of the city on a peaceful calm night when many of us were contemplating just how soon we could return home.
We must not let our guard down or our victories seem so complete as to ignore such real possibilities.

Definitely NOT outside the realm of possiblity-in fact, given what we have now found out about the terror of his regime he would be willing to do that just to get even with his own people.

That's very frightening to even think about, but I honestly wouldn't put anything past Saddam Hussein and his henchmen....they are evil personified

Which makes me wonder about why there is so little resistance from the Republican Guard ... is it that the Republican Guard really has nothing to throw at us and it's meager compared to our superior dominance in Operation Iraqi Freedom or some elaborate plan to lure our troops in some deathtrap? ...

SF, that is my biggest fear!! I pray our military leaders have prepared for that type of possibility!! I'm sure they have, but one often wonders when we hear the media reports of how we "almost control" the city and can "move at will". To me it is very
"SCARY" to see what seems so unreal as far as the resistance our troops are meeting.

My thoughts exactly. It's what I've been afraid would happen. I think it's been too easy. There has to be a reason behind it.

I think that Saddam's own paranoia may have worked against him. The regular Republican Guard wasn't allowed inside of Bagdad which lefy them between a rock and a hard place. Those that weren't destroyed by the air strikes or ground forces may have decided to go home. We're a long way from being done but the results are encouraging! We have to keep the pressure on and maintain our vigilance.

Watch for some traps inside Baghdad by what is left of the regime forces but we are doing well and the days of the regime are almost over.
