School starts tomorrow!

Well, it may be the most wonderful time of year once they go out the door and you can finally feel normal again, but we're STILL buying school supplies! Classes resumed last Wednesday. I have 2 in High School now. HS teachers assign school supplies the first 2 or 3 days of class. Students bring a few pencils/pens, folders and loose leaf paper. They gather sylibi and handouts. So here we were last Wednesday with hundreds of other kids and parents, gathering supplies. Contrast this with Elem school kid and they've had their backpacks full of supplies, for weeks! Labeled and everything. Don't know why the HS does it this way...our local Staples has a cop out there directing traffic it's so nutty....so today was the last day to get a graphing calculator, kept trying to find it cheap - a dream, ha. Then a very specific type notebook for Science, thankfully OfficeMax had one pictured in their Sunday flyer.

Then the a.m. bus we learned comes at 6:09 instead of 6:29 now.....

So I'm not ready yet to sing this song. But I'm about there!!!!

My brother started Fox Valley Tech already last monday... he's been in for a week! Lucky him!!! I don't start til Sept 3rd, but due to my mon, weds, fri schedule I drive up to Green Bay for a measley 2 hours (its a 45 minute drive to campus) and then don't have class again til Wednesday Sept 8th! I love my schedule! I guess that's what I get since I'm gradumacating in May.

Same here MissMary...all the elementary and middle schools have their school supply lists at the stores by the middle of summer. The high school students have to scrounge around at the supplies that are left to find what they need. My daughter needed a yellow non-glossy pocket folder and had to go to 3 stores to find it.

My daughter gets her schedule a couple of weeks before school. Why not post the students schedule and teacher on the website and have the teacher list the supplies the student needs on the website.

Well parents, you made it! School is that time of year when you can actually own a little time of your own!! Of course, before and AFTER school, the demands on you will be high.

Students...hope you have a great year! Make it a year of working hard, making new friends, and making memories too. As you learn more about who you are, put the positives to work for you. You'll surprise yourself when you apply not only what you know, but who you are, to your everyday life.

Nothing worse, however, than being in that classroom when a storm is brewing and you can't see a thing outside! I remember those days as a student. I also remember them as a teacher.

Must be all this talk of school has me thinking of going back too!

I just sent away for my college transcripts. If they can find them in those dusty old microfiche containers from 27 years ago, it might just spur my interest to go back and finish that MA in Education degree!

Never say never Steve! As you know I decided to start college at age 30. Went for 2 years before starting a family. Resumed my class schedule a few times since 1997. Wish I had that degree in my hand too! Now as I watch my daughters start a new year, I miss it personally. But I know full well our family budget wouldn't allow for two college students. At this point I really just want to focus on Nina. We'll be paying those college tuition/bookfees/room/board in less than a year now.

Cajunmama - in our school district, 7th and 8th Grade students went to school with Grades 9-12. I heard for years how upset parents were that their 7/8th Graders were thrown into the HS years too quickly. A Middle School plan was adopted and put on the ballot. The levy passed and within 2 years we had a brand new middle school. Everyone in our district - parents/teachers/students - breathed a sigh of relief. Even the 9-12th Graders, who didn't want little kids hanging around. Right away the 7/8 Grade teachers got together and said we must hand out school supply lists with schedules. It was so organized! I honestly don't know why HS teachers can't post this info somewhere - website, bulletin board, etc. It sure would save a lot of time. We needed a black ink cartridge last Thursday night, for a paper due on Friday. Here I was up at Staples, at 8:50. It was 3 times as crowded than last Wednesday. Each check out line had a minimum of 30 people. Crazy! So many parents were grumbling. Suddenly, came an announcement that the copy center counter would ring up purchases. We all made a dash for that register. One poor man was pushing a cart slowly looking at the special school supply section items, we all just about mowed him down. I looked behind me and in the span of 10 seconds, this new line had about 15 people! I was never so glad to get the heck out of there.

I will say this HS buy supplies after school starts thing is fun for the students - they think it's one big social scene! They compare schedules, talk about teachers/classes, who has what lunch mod, what their plans are for the weekend. Meanwhile they're clogging up every aisle doing this and parents are saying uh, let's get back to your list!

I started last week! I'm there now matter of fact but not gonna leave for a while yet as I'm still drying off from getting doused this morning . However the next few days are looking nice .

I finally get to start tomorrow (friday) then no classes til Sept 8th. I can't believe this is my final year at UWGB... after everything is over... it will be 4 1/2 years (double major and a minor!)
