Oh my, I can hardly believe this. How stupid does she think we are???

Dixie Chick Natalie Maines told a New Zealand TV reporter last week that her now-infamous slam at President George W. Bush was a joke.

Maines admitted that she told a London concert audience that the group was ashamed that the President is from their home state of Texas, but added, "It was a joke and it wasn't planned. And it was really funny at the time. It got lots of cheers, and that's what it was meant for. You see the trouble that you can get into if you speak religion or politics. It gets people very upset."


Maines issued a written apology after making the remark at a March 10 concert, but stations continued to ban the Chicks' music on radio stations across the country.

In addition, the Dixie Chicks' Home album saw a more than 40 percent decline in sales after Maines's remark.

That's a joke alright. I haven't listened to the DChicks, but they are supposed to be country, right? Well it seems that they are fakes because they don't understand that country music has core values, including love of our country. What amazes me is that american (pseudo)country music would even have an audience in europe.

War supporters are known these days to be the "silent majority" Seems that by not buying the Dixie Chicks album is a way to be heard. No one forced her to make comments like she did. She should suffer the consequences and reap what you sow. IMO... Pearl Jam should be getting the same attention as the Dixie Chicks.

I guess thats tru, but just as trent lott was lambashed for saying negative things so are they. I think its time to get over it. We've all said things we regret. Not to mention the other two hard working girls in the band didn't say anything and they are suffering, b/c of a few alarmists.

I think the British(sp?) people knew the statement was real. She
apologized though but they think It wasn't just enough. In Myrtle Beach,
One of the local Radio stations say the Chicks must give a free show
to the U.S. Troops to prove they are sorry.

I think the Troops don't have anything to do with the President IMO.
The S.C. government made the Chicks do it, and they should know this
conversity(sp?) doesn't have anything to do with the troops.

They need to lay low and keep quiet. It will pass over soon enough if Natalie will keep her pipes shut.

If you remember, Trent Lott's words cost him one of the most powerful jobs in the country.

I think that anyone who has serverd in the Armed Forces would disagree with you! I know I do. The President is the Commander in Chief of all US Armed Forces. When you speak out in disrespect of either the man or the Office of the President during a time of war it's a bad move!

Saying one doesn't like the president and say someone doesn't like a whole group of people is two different things. Not to mention they didn't say they hate the troops. They support the troops don't like the war. What person in their right mind would want soldiers to die? Might I add than many who are extremely angry over Maines' comments also didn't think Trent should have lost his job, or even be yelled at for saying such things.

When we are at war the time for all that crap is over. To make a comment like that in a country that was obviously hostile to the actions was a cheap shot and disloyal. The President is the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. You can't seperate the two during war. I for one am glad that they are paying a very high price. The American public are voicing their disapproval in the best possible way, with their pocket books! Funny how the free speech people don't like it when the American public exercises their rights!

As for Senator Lott, he also made a stupid statement and deserved what he got in my opinion. Unlike Maines, I don't think he meant what he said. He was trying to honor a long time servant of this country and just didn't realize what he said. The facts are though he said it and there isn't room for that kind of statement from a "public servant".

I still think this was blown up way past what it would have gotten if someone like Susan sarandon would come out and say smthg like that. Which she probably does. This only scares people into not speaking their mind and not wanting to say anything against the president. Almost like we are blacklisting all people against the war.

Any sane person is against war! To speak against war is fine. To speak with disrespect against the President while in a foreign country during a time of war is entirely different! There is no way to justify her comments as anything other than stupidity and bad taste. A brain is a terrible thing to waste! It's funny that you use the term "blacklisting". This is a term usually applied to a person or persons in a position of power or influence that attempt to impose their will on someone that they don't like or disapree with. This isn't the case at all! This is the American Public exercising their rights to free speech and free enterprise at it's best!

There is a time and place for everything...this wasn't the time or the place!
