Oh.....DON'T get me going!! I am SO against this!

A few counties on Michigan's southern border are to have a trial dove-hunting this year....but many (including seasoned hunters) are AGAINST it! Such a gentle creature being targeted simply because of its erratic flight pattern.....and don't tell me many will be actually cleaned and eaten...(2 little bites!)...GRRRR......p

Dove hunting opposed

Opponents of mourning dove hunting were to detail their attempt to block a hunt in Michigan today.

The coalition includes the Michigan Audubon Society, the Humane Society of the United States and other groups wanting to stop an initiative that could give hunters the OK to shoot mourning doves in six southern Michigan counties this fall.

"We do have a plan in place that will be an effort to reverse what the Legislature has done." said Michael Markarian of The Fund for Animals.

Guidelines for a trial hunt are being developed by the state Department of Natural Resources. The recommendation is expected to mirror a compromise struck with Gov. Granholm when she signed a bill in June allowing the hunt. Michigan would be the 41st state to allow a mourning dove hunt, ending a ban enacted in 1905. Hunting would be allowed in Lenawee, Berrien, Cass, St.Joseph Branch, and Hillsdale counties during a three-year trial."

I have NO IDEA what the benefit of hunting doves would be. I am not a hunter, I wouldn't hunt, but I understand those that do AS LONG AS they use the animal for it's skin and meat.
