WAUPACA: A parking lot at a rural restaurant was the wrong place for an early morning football game involving more than a dozen players.

Chef Chu's, N2834 Waupaca County QQ, had been burglarized twice in the past month. The most recent incident was April 3.

Waupaca County sheriff's deputy Rob Karski, while on patrol in the King area about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, saw several men behind the business.

None of the men spoke English. They also lacked proper identification.

Karski was soon joined by three other sheriff's officers and Waupaca police officer. Thirteen men and a juvenile male were taken into custody and transported to the Waupaca County Law Enforcement Center.

Four vehicles were impounded.

The Immigration and Naturalization Service interviewed the men by phone and ordered the 13 adults held by Waupaca County authorities as illegal aliens. The juvenile was released.

INS agents picked up the adult males late Wednesday and took them to Duluth, Minn., where they were all turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol, Waupaca sheriff's Capt. Don Conat said Friday.

"Interpreters were called to help book the men into jail and for medical examinations conducted within the jail," said Capt. Christ Brogaard, jail administrator.

It was learned through translators that two of the men involved in the football game worked at Chef Chu's and the other men had stopped by after closing time.

This was in today's Post Crescent (PC). It may have been funny to the readers, but not to the players. My mom laughed when she was read that story in the PC this morning!
