And you're saying I had tickets for that particular show and gave them away.....dang!!!

I know Oprah takes a lot of criticism but I've always been impressed with her. And now after reading this article, I know I really like her! I'm so happy for those in her audience.

PS - as some of you may know, Letterman mentions Oprah on his show ~a lot~ and the fact that she's either ignored or declined invitations to guest on his show. I can just picture Letterman and his writers tossing out jokes/material/scripts and furiously rewriting them, featuring this story. I can also picture Dave saying - we've been known to give out hams before....let's see ya want a ham or a new car? LOL Or saying - in the spirit of Oprah, we've decided to give out new cars also...we thought what the heck! Inside each gift box, the audience members would pull out a Matchbox car!

Dang - I gave my tickets to a little old bag lady
who said she loved Oprah! DANG!!!! ;)

Oprah is totally cool! When her show comes on
in the waiting room on the tv, I don't have to
run out and change the channel because of all
of the.......bleeeeeeeps!.....with curse words!

The cars were actually given by the manufacturer. For them and Oprah is was a stroke of marketing genius! Look at all the publicity thet're both getting for what amounts to peanuts. It's also great for anyone inteh audience ....everyone wins :-)

Jen - LOL

I'm just addicted to my Pepsi as some are with Dew. But if someone said you can have a new car or a lifetime supply of Pepsi, I think I'd take the car!!!!

Having said that, the mention of M. Dew comes up quite a bit on these wx boards. At a local TV station therock1811/Jeremy assisted on-air with local wx reports, I'm told they ALL drink Dew - so they can rise at 4 to be on air by 6.

Now since I tend to drag thru my days anymore, maybe I need to try M. Dew? LOL

Mary

PS - and oh, heard Letterman's episodes this week are all reruns. I still say he's going to have a reference to Oprah when he returns, he talks about her a lot and she's declined offers to guest on his show.

When I was 16, all my friends were getting cars for Christmas so that's what I asked for (and, frankly... expected).

Christmas morning I opened a box that I hoped had keys in it. But no, it was a matchbox car.

But it gets worse-- at 14 I asked for a phone, and they gave me a toy phone. After laughing for a while, they gave me the real phone. So when I got the matchbox car, I just kept waiting and waiting and waiting for that real car to show up!

I don't think "santa" realized the cruel joke-- it was an oversight.

cswitwer - your parents sure had a funny sense of humor! At least you did get a real phone.....LOL

Found this follow up article about the "free" cars......mmmm, I always say nothing is free in this day and age. Nothing! I walk past a booth at a fair offering drawings on a free vacation....sure I'll fill out your questionairre and look forward to many sales pitch calls you'll make to my home!!! Not! Anyway, here's the article.....

But it was a nice try Oprah....wonder if she'll fork over the $7,000 each? Legally, I'm sure she can't.

Mary

PS - I wasn't supposed to be online until Sunday, but I have a computer for about 30 minutes more....trying to make the most out of it! My husband needs it for work.....
