WELL folks, 2 weeks from tomorrow, this old fart (well, compared to MOST of y'all out there) starts SCHOOL! My CSI classes at Kaplan College online starts 4 Oct. gettin' kinda nervous here "LOL!" My God, I haven't picked up a school book, been forced to STUDY in over, um........let's see, 27 YEARS Just waiting to hear about my FAFSA loan and Grant!

I'm an older fart than you Dennis. And if ~I~ can go back to school, first at age 30, then at 42, you can too! Heck, my last attempt, ill fated as it was, was at age 45! So see you're not alone....you'll find that out.

Does your class ever meet? Face to face I mean? Just curious....I'm the type adult student or "non-traditional student" (what Univ. of Cincinnati calls us) that performs best with daytime classes (meeting 2 or 3 times a week) and a real live teacher. LOL I'd be lousy at online instruction, I just know it. I imagine the key is to do assignments ASAP, otherwise I think it would be easy to procrastinate (something I'm rather good at).

I wish you the best! It feels great when you get that first semester grade!

I was out of school for 10 years once, and found that I liked going back later because I had developed better critical thinking skills just as a result of navigating the real world. Made school a bit easier, as well as a lot more enjoyable. Good luck to you!

Dennis, now seriously, I thought you had your Masters in BS. Oh no, that not it, you ARE a master at BS!!!!!!!LOL Just kidding my friend. I'm really proud of you and know you will do really well.

cswitwer - I thought I did better in college than I would have at age 18. So I agree with you, you bring up a good point. I do still regret not going right out of HS though, that regret will always be there. But when you're older, you're not in competition with your peers/friends. You can just focus on your studies. I'm not saying it's easy, and in some ways people that are working full-time and not paying tuition/books/fees, forget what it's like to be strapped for cash. I learned that the hard way, by the time I went back, I was 30 and my friends were all working, established in their careers, shopping, spending money, taking trips. Meanwhile I was pinching pennies, eating at the cafeteria on campus because the salad bar was only $1.50 for students (1985). That was my main meal of the day, since this salad bar was huge. I felt caught in the middle, students that were without money were 18! I couldn't exactly hang with them. But in time I said no to a lot of outings and my part-time job on campus helped. Can't believe that phase of my life was almost 20 years ago now! Sometimes I miss it.....

Just remember Dennis, stay focused and decline social outings if you have to, so you can study. In the long run, it's just a short time out of your life. And look what you'll have in return - you BS!!!

What I found helpful when I went back to school for my MBA (though it wasn't online) was that I had my work experience to relate to and everyone else's in the classroom. It was also interesting to me.

MBA = Master's in Bad A$$???

Dennis, you will do great! You will teach them a thing or two along the way!

We're all proud of you for making the effort and continuing to learn and grow along the way.

Now, if I would decide to go back and finish that MS Ed, now then I would certainly wear an "old fart" t-shirt to class since everyone would be asking.

On the back it would read, "I walked out of class in 1975 and just found my way back in!!!

I think college is better when you are a little older .... you get so much more out of it. I took several years off between high school and college, and I dont regret it - Im glad I got the party out of me without wasting money on tuition!

Thanks for all the well wishes folks, I've always lacked a little self confidence. NOW.....this is REALLY it, I was APPROVED for my FAFSA *and* I got a Pells Grant, a scholarship from the Faternal Order of Police, with the scholarship, the grant, the remainder that requires payback is ALMOST nuthin SO......after 4 Oct, my presence on this board will be VERY limited to say the least but this is what I've ALWAYS wanted!

WELL......I took my entrance exams today, "MAN!" Talk about having to pull *Tricks outta my Hat* I haven't used Algebra in SOOOOOOOO long, let alone trig and calc I had 42 questions and it took me OVER an HOUR THEN......I had my ENGLISH exam "Phfffft!" Talk about FEELING OLD, I ran the "Conjunction Junction" song thru my head NUMEROUS TIMES "LOL!" WHEW! At least THAT'S OVER with, BTW, I passed my english with a 90%, the math? "LOL!" I got a 70% AH well, at least I'm IN!
