Do I get rid of the kid or the computer?

The brand new AOL 9.0 cd arrived in the mail today. While I was out, my 12-year old installed it :grr: There's about 8 new icons on my desktop, stuff running in the tray, etc, etc. The computer is crawling. Now I'm going to spend the rest of the day uninstalling and disinfecting the computer :grr: I had AOL before, in the BC days (before cable) and it took forever to get everything cleaned out. I already started the uninstall and the computer froze, got blue screens, and all that fun stuff.

Ed, I'm VERY SORRY! Personally, I can't STAND AOL....drives me NUCKIN' FUTZ to say the least! Now, about the kid or computer, let's see, a computer doesn't eat, get in trouble, won't have the police show up at your house because it broke the neighbors window, HMmmmmmmm, TOUGH CHOICE! J/K...but I'd make the make the young man *think* about what he did (if you know what I mean!)

9.0 is known as a hog for memory and it is like dragging a chain behind the computer. Not easy to uninstall all the components, but good luck to you.

I'm still running 5.0 on the Mac at work, and it is much quicker.

Ed - Jim is the only one to install upgrades in this house. And he does every few months. Now we're on OS 10 (iMac). Yes, he does have us trained well.....LOL

But once Laura shoved a smaller CD Rom disc in our old computer (a Pokemon thing, came in a cereal box) and he couldn't get it out. She really messed up the computer! Had to go in the shop. Now when she gets one free, she pitches it - good girl!

So I can sympathize.

Well I am the kid of this family, well one of the two. Anyways I'm the one who does anything with this computer, although there isn't much to do with it because it is SOOO OLD!!!

*High five*, NWIASpotter! Old computer here,
as well. It's always straining to "catch up" to
everything I ask it to do. Time is drawing nigh
for a new one, but, I'm still trying to be a
cheapskate and get by!

As for AOL, I have tried various past versions,
and, even when the PC was new, "freeze up"
and "booted" happened WAY too much for my
liking!

My computer has 256 MB of DDR SDRAM, 40 gig Hard Drive, 2.6 GHz processor, standard ethernet card for broadband (which I use a DSL modem currently and dial up in emergencies). It's great! :)

Dont' feel bad... my mom just recently purchased a new puter... before the new puter... we ran Windows 95. (we gave the hard drive to my grandmother... they really only need it for word processing and internet.
