RED LION, Pa. (AP) -- A heavily armed 14-year-old boy shot his school principal inside a crowded junior high cafeteria Thursday morning, then killed himself, authorities said.

The shootings happened about 15 minutes before the start of classes at the Red Lion Area Junior High School, about 30 miles southeast of Harrisburg in south-central Pennsylvania.

The eighth-grader had multiple weapons and fired at least two shots with a handgun, said Red Lion Borough Police Chief Walt Hughes.

The principal, identified by school district officials as Eugene Segro, was transported to a hospital in critical condition, police said. A spokeswoman at York Hospital referred questions to the county coroner; the coroner's office did not immediately return calls.

Segro has been at the school for more than a decade and is believed to be in his 50s, said Terry Robinson, the school district's business manager.

:( Very sad news. It seems that either school shootings like this are back on the rise or the media has begun focusing on them again. :(

I actually haven't had Fox News Channel or have heard any news today; which is odd for me.

I would think that they media is focusing on school shootings and other news, because the war coverage is getting just as much attention as various other news stories now.

Heard about this. Such a sad thing. I guess no one can truthfully say that it won't happen where they live. What a idyllic town and it still happened there.

Let me tell you something, if the bullies in my school want to start a serious situation with me, then they picked the wrong kid.
