SPRINGFIELD -- Students at Kickapoo High School will face heightened security measures on Friday. Someone threatened to detonate a bomb at the school and administrators want to make sure it doesn’t happen.

Superintendent Jack Ernst told reporters about the bomb threat at a news conference late Thursday afternoon. Ernst said the extra security measures will include checking Kickapoo students before they enter the school, not allowing students to leave once they enter the school, and placing staff members at all the entrances and exits during the day.

Ernst said administrators take the threat seriously, Ernst wouldn’t say why administrators are treating this seriously instead of as a student prank.

I will keep you updated on this story. Scary situation indeed. :(

Spring fever...between this and the shooting of a principal in Pennsylvania - who did end up dying BTW - today. Columbine and Oklahoma City all happened in the spring too - and I believe it was in the month of April also! :o

Yes, Stephanie, the Columbine shooting occurred on April 20th in 1999.

In my HS, there were several bomb threats, but none of them hightened security.

I just hope that the same situations don't happen in my school, b/c there's been a lot of bullying on other students (I'm one of them), just by the way they look, or do stuff.

That's right Garrett. I heard of the Indian chief with the name "Kickapoo," too.
