No. With the shortage expected due to the British company that makes it being shut down, I don't think I'll get one either. I'm 16 and in good health, not the most suspectible group.

Being a nurse around sick folks, I try to get
one every year! I've been so swamped in work,
your post reminded me to call my doc, tomorrow,
and ask about one, Eric! Thanks!

Unfortunately, I absolutely can NOT get flu shot.
Once I get the flu shot, I am extremely sick for about a week.
I had one during Basic Training and had an allergic reaction to the shot... The spot where I received the shot bruised really bad, my upper arm was horribly painful (and not from the push-ups), I had a 101* fever for days upon days, threw up everything in sight, extremely weak and could barely hydrate. I lost about 10 lbs that week from not eating or drinking.
Here's my beef... The military requires we get flu shots... I don't want to be sick like that again... that was horrible!

I've taken a flu shot every year since I had a severe case of the flu years ago. This year I was encouraged when I heard supply would be plentiful. Then that fast, I heard today that we lost 50% of our supply, due to one plant in England being shut down for contamination. I was driving to the grocery store when I heard this news. Thinking, oh great, there goes my chances of a flu shot this year.....then I hear at Kroger's they're giving flu shots on the spot for the next two hours, come to the pharmacy, no wait. I ditched my cart and hurried over. Sure enough, no wait, $20 and I was back shopping in no time. I couldn't believe it! Pharmacist explained that my area's Kroger received a huge shipment but would be forced to divvy them out after 7 p.m. tonight. So they wanted to offer shots to as many local customers as they could. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

I doubt if I will be able to get a flu shot...I haven't had one since 1977.

Ten pounds in a week? Can I get two of those, please?
All kidding aside, the flu shots they gave us didnt make me sick, but the yellow fever and typhoid shots sure did. Man!
To this day, since I got out of the AF, I dont get a flu shot and have not contracted the flu. Pneumonia, yes. Flu, no.

Shannon!!! You jinxed me girl......last night I was so relieved to get a flu shot, I was actually doing a little dance in the kitchen. Yes, my family thought I was nuts. Ah, but you see I was very-very sick with the flu way back in 1992 and my internist said to get a shot every single year, never let them lapse. Following his advice, I've had one every year. Some years it was hard to find them, but I've always lucked out. Then I was explaining to Laura why I couldn't believe I was able to get one in the first place, how 50% of the shipment that was to come from England was contaminated. She asked - oh no, Mom, was your shot contaminated? I said - of course not, that's silly, they would have checked this batch carefully. Then wham, bam, woke up with a killer and I mean killer migraine headache. Which caffeine and Excedrin did not take care of. That's when, while lying on the couch, it occurred to me that maybe the shot made me sick? And I swear Shannon, I thought of YOU! I'm still talking myself out of it though, saying this is just one of my standard migraines.....which are no picnic......
But honestly, does anyone question the batch that's here now? Hubby was giving me one of his I told you so looks, like why did you just roll up your sleeve so fast Mary.....

Ironically, in a general discussion during my Criminal Justice class this am, this subject came up. I'm hearing that doctors who had scheduled patients to get shots could only give them to those patients, anyone else was out of luck.

I used to not either until I actually had the flu. Was in the hospital for two weeks. Not something I want to do again, so I get the shot.. only hurts for a sec. lol.

I'm still glad I was able to get the shot. Feeling better today, although I still have no idea if I got sick from the shot or not (if so, this was a first for me). Now everyone in my town is talking about the shot shortage. And suddenly I have visions of taking care of 3 ill family members this winter! Yikes, that happened one year, they were all dropping like flies around me and I never got it. But like Linda, I'm still glad I get the shots. After being very ill with the flu once, you never forget (my case almost went into pneumonia and I had to be hospitalized, sorry that happened to you Linda). Makes you wonder what this winter will bring now? A return to cold and snow up here and now more flu cases? Oh my....

Mary,
I hope you're able to...because since Wednesday...after news broke about the American company in Britain having a report of some contaminated serum (they're now cut-off)...at least here in NC they're saying that only folks at highest-risk, small children, babies, etc., should now only get shots and healthier peeps wait for now until later sometime before getting one.
I'm not sure how Florida is handling the situation now since that company in Britain fiasco.

I overheard a volunteer at my local Kroger Pharmacy (where 3 days ago I got my shot, no questions asked) yesterday read the long list of who should wait and who should get their shots now. The patient/customer was a child care provider so she qualified for the shot. And they had them in stock, so she got hers. But I had the clear impression that if you didn't have a good reason to get the shot, you were out of luck. I guess you could fabricate a story if a person wanted to......I'm not suggesting anyone do this though.

Some of the symptoms are flu related, but others like migraines, laryngitis, weight loss (due to not eating or really hydrating) and throwing up just happens with the onset of the flu shot.
Hopefully, I can get my doc to excuse me from the flu shot... she has seen me after a flu shot... and it is NOT pretty! Like I said, military requires them... urgh!
