I know it's rare, but with all the weather folks here, I suppose several have. I saw one while watching the sun set from a condo at Destin, FL.

OK, this is one more indication that I should be
paying closer attention at sunset! LOL, I'm usually
sitting in the house with eyes droopy and feet hurting,
saying, "I should walk my dog......should walk my dog..."

The green flash occurs when the very last speck of the setting Sun briefly flares a vivid green color just before it disappears. It's best seen on a sea horizon though a flat land horizon is also good. Best seen in clear dry air. It's a result of the differential refraction of sunlight by the atmosphere which is greatest at the horizon and appears green because the blue and violet light in the spectrum is scattered out by the atmosphere..

Thanks, Steve. Not living on the seashore
or a flat landscape is why I've never seen it!
Next time that I am vacationing on the sea,
I will look for it!
