Your Idea of a Vacation.

Some like a week on the beach with a good book!
Some like hittin' the road and seeing all the sites along the way.
Some like hiking the mountains.
Some like just staying home and sleepin' in for a week.
Some like theme parks.
Some like camping.
What's your idea of a REAL vacation?

Anywhere without my cell phone (I'm on call 24/7/365) is a vacation, but I'm looking forward to time on the beach (under the shade of an umbrella or cabana of course) listening to the waves hit the shoreline and watching the sunrise AND sunset. First time to Maui this fall.

Not taking any get-away with the folks this year...but we enjoyed going to Myrtle Beach in May 2001 and then Sarasota, FL in July of that year to a cousin's wedding!

We take alot of short trips that don't truly qualify as vacation for me, but as nice little getaways. My husband is on call 24/7 also, available to work through cell phone. When we camp, we have to camp where there is cell service, etc.
So, you see, one of the perks of cruiseing, is NO PHONE! Honestly, this is the only time we can not be reached by Brian's work, thus the many cruises. We find cruising the absolute best vacation value, totally relaxing, and you do get spoiled rotten! Its nice to wake up in a foreign land every morning, with new cultures, and adventures awaiting you.
Enjoy Maui...I haven't made it there yet!

Definately someplace tropical either on a beach or on a cruise ship going to places tropical. I've only been on one cruise but I'd love to go again sometime.
I loved my vacation to Mexico - I could've used on more day...
Enjoy your cruise Furry! Steve - I didn't know that you were going to Maui - Wow! I'm jealous!

Down the I-10 pipeline this morning to Tucson/the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, then possibly Sabino Canyon (granite canyon with flowing stream), Mt Lemmon (southern-most ski area in the U.S.), and socializing with the entourage in from Cleveland. Should be around 80-90* today - so for a quickie weekend, that's not too bad 8) It's a mini-vacation. Sorry, still have the pagers & cell phones though...

Indeed,Ski Valley at 'The Lemon' is the Southernmost Ski area..but not in the US..the Lower 48.I believe there is a ski area in Hawaii that has a Southern edge over us.
Enjoy the I-10 Trek. It's VERY windy out there out ahead of the Cali ULL 'Slider'..up to Gusts:37-40mph. :o
I'll take the Sailboat off of Manzanillo or Mazatlan,MX anytime for a vacation.
Ya just can't beat sleeping in your own personal 'Floating Hotel',oh and plenty of Shrimp Stuffed Soft Tacos and some cold 'Tecate' Cerveza!Salud!

My idea of a great vacation is a week at a Spa facility, talk about being pampered and spoiled.

With our schedule the way it is, 4/10's with 3 day weekends, we take a LOT of one-two day road trips. Use to enjoy going to Mexico, with all the BS going on in the world today, we stay within the states now, usually Albq, Santa Fe, Taos New Mexico, this year, Carlsbad Caverns, Roswell, Tatum is on the books for a weeks vacation.

Hey Arizona friends...I was in Tucson on Thursday for the day. Had lunch at TGI Fridays on Broadway!
Didn't feel like a vacation because I was working and visiting clients there, but I sure felt like singing God Bless America down there when we came out of Fridays and saw four A-10's preparing to land at Davis-Monthan AFB.
So...Mt Lemmon wasn't in the cards that day...but my sales rep and I had a nice long chat about Tombstone and the OK Corral on our way there!
Still have to visit that place one of these trips.

Having the house to myself for a month....no wife, "firehead", Philip or even Annabelle (she be a ho') around, with a loaned car and ample food. THAT would pass for a "vacation" here...a most welcome one.

If I go anywhere, just give me a beach!
Otherwise, most of my vacations consist of
staying home and doing things around here,
such as tending the gardens, and, doing
things around the house that get put off -
all at my own pace, without hurry, of course!

If I had to choose my perfect vacation/setting it would be a log cabin in the woods. With a comfortable chair on the covered porch. I'd sleep late, eat well, head to the porch to read a good book. For dinner go out to eat. Next day I'd want to do some hiking or see what the local village has to offer. Peace, quiet, nature, etc. Our family vacations are similar to this, but we don't often sleep in or past 8 a.m., we go to Flordia every other year (I'm not a beach person), and we're on the go a lot. Not a lot of time sitting around reading. I think my idea of a dream vacation is really a solo one. Hard to get your family in that slooooowww mode, or wrestle them away from the remote. My kids like to check out all the channels our new condo/hotel/whatever it is has to offer. My youngest gets all excited if we have 3 Nicks or Disney's to choose from. Ugh! Me - I just love being out in the wilderness but in that cabin too! Used to camp, that was fun years ago. Not for me now.
