I just have to share what happened at lunch today

I took my elderly great aunt and grandmother to lunch today....and as always, let them decide where we'd dine. They chose Waffle House, a favorite of aunt Millie's for decades.

Well, we entered, sat down in a booth, and ordered our lunch. After dining, I ask the waitress for my check. To my astonishment, she said "that's already been taken care of sir". Shocked, I asked who paid?..why?...and she said our bill was paid for by a middle aged couple who were sitting close by, but had left the restaurant over 20 minutes earlier. The waitress said the man just pointed toward our booth and said "pay for their lunch along with mine" as he smiled and handed her two twenties.

These were total strangers to me....a couple that neither my grandmother or I had never seen in our lives. For whatever reason....early Christmas holiday spirit, kindness in their heart toward elderly folks (Granny's on a walker, aunt Millie totally blind), or just to be nice, these folks paid for our meal that probably cost $15 or more.

Needless to say, I'm both stunned and very humbled by the experience. I've always tried to do the right thing...and have done my share of good deeds over the years...especially for ladies, the elderly, and children; but never paid for anyone's meal (at least not total strangers). Since I have no way of knowing who these nice folks were to thank them, the best way to thank them is to pass their kindness along.....and let my little light for Christ shine by bestowing the same gesture of kindness on someone else. :)

There are still kind people with good hearts among us who do good deeds for others, even strangers, just to be nice....with no strings attached. What my grandmother, great aunt, and I experienced today is living proof :)

Didnt you know this is Kindness Week?

Random acts of kindess and paying it forward shouldnt be limited to one week a year though.

What a great experience for you!

Thanks for the heads up alicia-w. At least now I know why they most likely did it..

Here's something I found online regarding Random Acts of Kindness Week:
http://www.actsofkindness.org/people/days.asp

I agree....being kind to others isn't something folks should do only one or two weeks a year. My late mother lived her life in that manner every day....trying her best to make others feel better about themselves (to mom, every week was "random acts of kindness week" :) :)

Wow, Perry - that's so nice!

It does remind me of the Pay It Forward movie (although I never saw, I've heard lots about it).

I'd feel compelled to do the same thing, or a similar random act of kindness.

Yes, it is almost exactly like Pay it Forward, and some country song I remember from a few years back, though I don't remember what it's called. By the way, if you don't like to cry at movies, don't watch Pay it Forward. I'm not sure what it was, but I LOST it during this one. I'll have to think of some way to randomly be kind to someone in the next couple of days. :)

Pay It Forward is surely worth watching. Paying it forward in real life is a wonderful thing.

At this holiday season...let's each pledge to springboard off this post and pay it forward to someone else...no strings attached...in the weeks ahead.

Great story. Good people. But this is a beginning, not an ending. Keep it "paying forward."

Amen and I love the story. Pay It Forward is a Great Movie. I pledge to go out tomorrow and do a completly random and anonymous act of kindness. I think others should take the pledge. It does not count if someone finds out. The only check up on our pledges is our own conscience.

I've got a story of my own, not sure how related it is but I'll share anyway because it made my day :) ...

On Monday I was helping a cool friend of mine clean out his car. He came across a few used gift cards that were in his driver's side door storage area thingamajigger (I don't know what it's called, sorry  ). Well to make a long story short, he gave them to me and said "Here, they are yours now. You can keep them no matter what value they have left on them. :) "

So I'm like "ok cool, a few extra bucks woohoo no big deal." I go to check the balances (one for Best Buy and one for Target) and they each had about $13 on them!!! And I didn't do anything to earn them!

Made my day that's for sure. :D
