"On November 10, 1775, a Corps of Marines was created by a resolution of the Continental Congress. Since that date many thousand men and woman have borne the name Marine. In memory of them it is fitting that we who are and are not Marines should commemorate the birthday of our Corps by calling to mind the glories of its long and illustrious history.

The Marines will be hosting Balls over over the world tonight. It's the only day of the year that junior enlisted men (and ladies) and the most senior staff NCO will sit at the same table for a formal banquet. One of my favorite traditions is the cutting of the cake. The youngest enlisted person and the senior ranking Sergeant Major/Master Gunnery Sergeant will cut the birthday cake together...
Happy Birthday USMC...and Semper Fi.
