I love encountering someone else from KY and asking them how they pronounce the capital of KY -- do you say Louis-ville or Louie-ville? It's frightening how many of them actually pick one of those choices.

I thought Kentucky's capital was Frankfort? I guess I'm just wrong on this one?

That's the point of asking them that way and that why it's so scary when they answer one of those two choices.

I've known them all since I was eight...
If I'd were as competent at mathematics as I am at geography, I'd be a Rhodes Scholar

I knew all 50 when I was about 5 years old, thanks to this puzzle my parents gave me

, and I think I could probably still get 47-48.

Frankfort, yes, but I was told that the locals pronounced Louisville, as "Looville"

Actually, it's "Loovul." I hate it when non-locals, particularly sports announcers, go out of their way to pronounce it like the locals. Come on... they don't say New Yawk and Bahsten.
