What's the best or most remembered piece of advice your mother ever gave you?

My mother always said: Contribute quietly, protect those who need it most, and you can't change the world sitting at the kitchen table!

Always wear clean underwear and hopefully with no holes in them, you might get in a wreck and then everyone would see them....????? I worked in the ER for 7 years, didn't see that many pairs of drawers unless the patient had them cut off cause they were in serious condition or deceased and then they didn't care and no body looked.

Also, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all!

And the BIG ONE......one day you will grow up and have a little girl just like you and be paid back for everything you do.......

boy was she sure correct in that one!!!

The one thing my mother told me was never to go to sleep at night if you are angry at your spouse.

LOL, JenBayles and MSRobi911 - that "clean
underwear" thing was the very first thought that
came into my mind when I read this thread! Another
one, when a boss or supervisor was being
mean, yelling, etc. - "Remember - they can yell
at you, but, they can't eat you."

I always remember this one bit of advice and I have used it. It was not from my mom, but from a favorite teacher my senior year. Trying to prepare us for the "real world" and jobs.

She said when your boss is screaming at you and you want to scream back and know that if you do you will probably be shown the door....picture that person naked and think about how silly they would look while they are screaming at you.....it works, you have to work on not laughing or smirking (that would get you in more trouble) but you calm down and don't get as upset and scream back.
