Biggest stories of the year.. Your opinions too

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Tue Nov 23, 2004 6:41 pm

I know there are still about 38 days left in the year.. but I'm already trying to get ideas for the biggest stories of the year when I attempt to relaunch my site in December..

Top News Stories: {In no particular order}

Hurricane Quad hits Florida {Charley, Frances, Jeanne, Ivan}

Basketbrawl in Detroit
Martha Stewart gets prison time for stock swap.
Carlie Brucia raped and murdered

President Bush wins 2nd term
Dan Rather steps down at CBS
Ken Jennings Jeopardy streak {may still lose before 12/31}
Yasser Arafat dies
Jessica McMullen tragedy {more local story}
Scott Peterson guilty of murder of wife Laci
Lori Hacking murdered by husband

100's more die in Iraqi war
Terrorists crash 2 jetliners overseas {the 2 planes that crashed minutes apart}

There are probably several more on here I have completely forgot.

SPORTS:
Athens Olympics go off without a hitch

Ricky Williams retires wanting drugs more than football
Tampa Bay Lightning win Stanley Cup
Lance Armstrong wins Tour de France YET AGAIN
Diana Taurasi wins WNBA rookie of the year

Basketbrawl in Detroit

Feel free to add a few.. The last week of December.. I'll make my final list and publish it on my site when I relaunch it

Looks good...

Don't forget about the death of Ronald Reagan. I know it wasn't a surprise but it was still a big story.

I think the Presidential election was the biggest story of the year... mainly for the fact that it went on for the whole year. The primaries started in January and the General election campaign began in March.

Cycloneye...Florida SHOULD be the biggest story of the year....

The sad thing is that after a week or so it only becomes a regional story...And that is what those outside of the tropics do not understand..Especially in one of the most historic years of tropical acitivity...

He's coming back next year.

How about Lou Holtz Retires, Spurrier steps in.
Peterno desides to coach till he's at least 80.

OUTSTANDING point ... it's very unfortunate that after a relatively short period of time, Florida was basically all but forgotten while there was still a severe need for food, water, supplies, and rebuilding needs ... and unfortunately, this occurs all to often with many historic storms ... including Hugo (although, news coverage was predominant for about 2 weeks off and on, BEFORE the OCT 17th, 1989 San Francisco Earthquake, and Charleston/Hugo was basically all but forgotten instantly ... except when Mr. Joe Riley was criticized for donating some supplies/water/etc made national news ... even still when the need was still here as well (from an ethical standpoint, I applauded Mayor Riley's gesture ...). He felt that it would have been unethical NOT to be the first city to respond to the needs of another city in need from a natural disaster ...

This should definitely count as the biggest story of the year:

Plano mother charged with murder of her own 11 month old baby.

Hey Stooge.. that was a bad story too :cry: But sadly Mom's probably kill their babies more often than we know.. hence why they never make national news

All I know is that the 911 tape was released nationwide. I'm sure the case will be on Court TV.
