SEVERE WEATHER THREAT CHECK IN POLICY!!!!

In light of the current severe weather events and the unknow whereabouts of some of our members..The Administrators and Moderators have considered inacting a severe weather threat area check in policy...We would like suggestions on the specifics and details on how to go about this. We had a few idea's about emailing your telephone number to an Administrator and having it stored where they can access it in the event that a severe weather event affects you and you don't check...We just want to make sure our FAMILY here at STORM2K is safe.. Remeber these telephone Numbers will be kept in Administrative confidentiality.. If you decide to provide your number..also provide the name to be asked for in the event a call is made... IE I am Rainband..aka Johnathan..This is to avoid embarassment!! LOL If you have any ideas, suggestions or comments please post them here..Remember this is optional and your not required to provide this information..JUST an idea...Pray for our unaccounted FAMILY and all involved.. TICKA will post the email addy here!!!
storm2kphone@storm2k.org
Thanks for your time!!!!

Great idea!
I am not sure if I would send my phone number in. I am not a big fan of telephones, only have chatted with a couple of people I met online a couple times each in the last two months. This will be to see if members are okay, wouldn't be much of a conversation, maybe it would in some cases, but I would assume that would be rare.
This may even be a good idea if members are wondering where someone is when severe weather hasn't hit there area and they didn't mention they were going anywhere.

maybe in the case of someone not wanting to give out their phone number, they could give alternate email address' that belong to other family members or friends? I also don't feel comfortable with giving my phone number out. (Mainly because my husband would have 10 cows if someone called the house

) This is a great idea...with all of the severe weather going on...and also because hurricane season is just around the corner.

You have mine, and are welcome to make use of it anytime (don't wait for a severe wx warning, OK?); it does get lonely around here, and my typing skills aren't what they should be.
Besides all that, it would be nice to actually talk to a "live" person from the Storm2K powers-that-be...(hint-hint)

This is a great idea, expeclly for the members that live out in tornado alley. I will give my phone number out just as long it only goes to the people that needs it. Thanks for this great idea, bye!

10 cows MScoast??? OUCH!!
I think it is a fantastic idea, there have been many times here where we have lost power and cell phones have been our only way to reach anyone.
THANKS FOR CARING!!!!

Just to verify something - these numbers will only be used in case we haven't heard from you in 12-24 hours if there was destructive weather in your region. Only Chad, Marshall and me would be the one calling. If you don't feel comfortable giving out your phone number - maybe you can give us an alternative email which again will be keep in strict confidence. I think this last round of severe weather has shown us how much we want to stay in contact and make sure our members of Storm2k are safe and sound.

If you have any questions or concerns - just send me a PM.

MS, if your hubby has 10 cows mine will probably be right behind yours having 11!
That is just his tough luck Im afraid. In the event of a landfalling cane or severe weather, please dont hesitate to contact me (Ive sent my number in) if I have not checked in on the board. Besides, I have not one blood realtive here besides my husband and son. So you are truly my family here.

I hope most of the membership will participate. Like MSCoast said, hurricane season is fast approaching, and half our members live within striking distance. And the rest of us are not immune to earthquakes, floods, fires, and tornadoes. It's always something, Rosanne Rosannadanna.
Probably the thing to do would be to have an ongoing thread dedicated to checking in. Otherwise it would be very difficult to scan all forums for every member affected by a widespread weather system like this one. Like ticka said, members should try to check in within 12-24 hrs, if possible.
Also, for this to work well, participating members should update their profiles to include their "general" location. In scanning the member list, some are left blank.
When you guys in admin decide on all the details, perhaps outlining it all in the next newsletter would help reach everyone.
Sorry for rambling. I better quit the caffeine this morning!

I just feel as if I should respect my husbands wishes. He doesn't feel that we should give personal information (such as phone numbers) to people we have never had eye contact with. I respect those of you who trust giving such information out. Thing is, I have been stalked before (not by someone on the internet)...to the point of someone finding my home. I know the admin. WOULDN'T do such a thing...but if you can imagine the fear that I have, then you can better understand.

MScoast - we understand - this is voluntary in submitting contact information. I think you live in a populated area - you could find access to a computer and give us an update.

I am glad you all like the Idea

..When I was thinking about it last night I thought some would hesitate and I understand that completely. It is not required as Ticka has explained..I just thought as worried as alot of us were about breeze..247 and bill. this would ease the anxiety.. when and if GOD FORBID another round of tragic weather affects the communities of our members!!! I like the idea of the alternate email addy..thats a good one too!!! Next time I think of something maybe I will poll the audience first!!!

What difference would it make having an "alternate e-mail address"? If we don't have access to our computer, we can't use our primary or an alternate e-mail address.....

I think they mean an alternate email..of a family member or friend that you may contact first..in the event of a severe weather event

That they may use to find out if your ok!!

Jonathan, I pretty much figured that is what Patricia is referring to. Wasn't completely sure, so I asked. Sorry about that. I wouldn't be surprised if others weren't sure what was meant by this.
I am not sure that many members here have told those that live elsewhere in our immediate or extended families about Storm2K, so I an alternate e-mail address wouldn't make any sense. No offense at all. Trying to iron this out. I appreciate it.
