Just curious how many of the Storm2k posters are working moms or stay at home moms. I would love to be able to stay at home with my 7 year old daughter - but its will never be economically practical.

I stay home with my son. I do teach a few ballet classes when the studio gets full or another teacher gets sick, but that is normally very early in the morning (6:30am) or in the evening when my husband gets home to watch our boy. I would love to work from home to ease the money issue off my husband a little, but have not found work to do from home.

For the next 3 weeks I'm a working mom. But I'm going to give up my job in order to fulfill my lifelong dream of being a registered nurse. This will give me more time with my family, and more time for much needed studying. I thank God that I am able to do this. Many people would have to continue working. With having such a large family (4 sons and a husband) it would have been impossible for me to continue to work.

MScoast - All the best to you! That's so awesome that you have an opportunity to fulfill your dream. Just one question ... WHY AREN'T YOU STUDYING TO BE A MET?????!!!!!!!!

I'm a typical stay at home suburban mom with 2.5 kids (the .5 is a 100 lb mutt named Jasmine), however as of August I no longer have a minivan. When I'm not on the weather boards letting the chores pile up, I volunteer at school and church.

Back in '92 after our 2nd child was born, I continued to work but found out real quick that I was going to crash and burn at it. I'm thankful to have had the choice, because so many moms don't. But it was still a very difficult decision, because I enjoyed my job and I felt uncomfortable being "dependent" on someone else. That didn't last long however. After I quit, I regretted not doing it sooner with the 1st child! Our lives suddenly became much less stressful.

I always thought I would go back to work when they went to grade school, but now my husband's job is fairly mobile, and we've moved twice just in the last 2 years. Even though I feel like I should be working, it doesn't seem to make much sense for us now. I'm happy to be going on the kids' field trips and talking to you nice folks across the country.

Well guess I have the best of both worlds. I work at an office 1/2 day till noon then I start my other job and be a stay at home Mom for the rest of the day and love it. Gives me the opportunity to Substitute at both the kids schools,(private schools so I don't get paid lol) coach softball, clean da house make dinner, etc., etc. etc.

I am work full-time. But still find time to be a Brownie Troop Leader and attend most of my daughter's school functions. Wishing I would win the lottery so I could be a stay at home mom

I'm a single mom with two teenage daughters......I finally sold my mini-van and turned into a SUV owner....(older daughter getting ready to drive and said mini-van wasn't too cool)....I teach 4th grade in Houston but I live in the country about an hour away....In my free time I. I...I don't have free time so I don't really know what I would do if I had it....hehhehee....Before the divorce I was able to stay home for two years and be a full-time mom....I loved it!!!! It's hard work...harder than some people think...I was still the first one up and last one to bed...Hats off to the stay at home moms!!!..And God bless the few that are generous enough with their time to help me out when life getting too impossible.....One of those news shows once added up the salary of a stay at home mom as if she were an actual employee and getting paid for services....she would need to be paid ???? 80,000 ...i think.. sooo there you are.....

my mother is a working mom. It would be a financial crisis if my mom stayed home.

My wife stays home and takes care of two, and two are in school. With my work arrangements, I can take afternoons off if I feel the need and spend more time with the children. I don't get paid a lot, but it is worth it to have time with the kids.

I wish my husband would spend more time at home with the kids. Although when he does, I usually wish he'd go back to work. Guess it depends on "that time of the month".

Exactly, there isobar. My wife sometimes asks me not to come home, and boy do I get the hint.

I am a single mom, 2 boys, 18 & 12. I work full time and am a full time student. I love it but I am extremely busy and am still waiting on my prince charming to come take me away.........or is that Calgon?? I have been a single mom by choice for 11 years. There has just not been room for me to devote to a relationship without spreading myself too thin and that would not be fair to my kids. Things will settle down one day......until then, I will continue to love what I do and try not to complain. If I were to marry again, I would love to stay at home a little more.

I've been a stay at home mom since my girls, now 12 and 15 were born. I was enrolled in college full time during my first pregnancy and when she was born I couldn't bear to put her in the campus day-care. I decided to take some time off. One semester turned into two and so on. Besides, we were saving money for me to stay home, no tuition. Fast forward to about '97, when my youngest went off to school all day. I enrolled part-time in college again, still trying to get that BS degree. First time I wanted Elem Ed, by '97 I knew teaching was out - I was already a worn out mom in her 30s, LOL. So I was just taking classes to fulfill a Liberal Arts Degree. Then in 99, I got sick with colon cancer, had a couple of surgeries and took a year off from classes. Tried going back again but it was too much for me to handle - my health isn't as it should be. So for now, unless the perfect stay at home job plops in my lap, I'm home again. I'll spare you the details, but it's hard for me to join the working force again or even attend classes. Tried that, didn't work.

In a wordy way though, I absolutely loved being home with my girls. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Especially now, they're the busiest and b/c I'm home, they can get involved with clubs, sports, and I'm here to drive them around. Actually I do feel like I'm working - chauffering!
