Man killed after lava lamp explodes ON STOVE

Exploding lava lamp kills Kent man

KENT, Wash. - A 24-year-old man who placed a lava lamp on a hot stovetop was killed when it exploded and sent a shard of glass into his heart, police said.
"Why on earth he was heating a lava lamp on the stove, we don't know," Kent Police spokesman Paul Petersen said Monday.
Phillip Quinn's parents found his body in his Kent trailer home at about 8 p.m. Sunday. They went to check on him after his girlfriend reported that she couldn't get in touch with him.
The King County Medical Examiner's office estimated the time of his death at 2 p.m. Sunday.
After the lamp exploded, Quinn apparently stumbled into his bedroom, where he died, Petersen said.
Police found no evidence of drug or alcohol use.

Don't throw out your lava lamps.... just don't put them on the stove and turn the burner on.
If you heat any type of sealed glass containers with contents sealed into them on the stove, you will create shrapnel. If you put a can of string beans on your burner and turn it on, you will eventually explode the can of stringbeans and send metal shards flying around the room. If one of these hits you in the heart.... Does this mean cans of string beans are dangerous? No...
You should not have to put "warning labels" on lava lamps that say not to heat them on the stove to see what happens...

My prayers and thoughts w/ that man's family, too.
Back in the 1970s my folks, sister and I had a lava lamp when we lived in Cincy...during the height of when they were popular back then and since then they've apparently made a comeback.

Why have Americans become so clueless?
My nine year old niece knows better than to place glass objects on a hot oven....sadly, a 24 yr old man who should have known better, didn't....and now he's dead because of it. Yet another example of someone becoming a statistic for simply failing to utilize the common sense God gave a goose.

Methinks the clueless have been amongst us since the beginning of time. We just have the ability to hear about more of them now. Pretty scary, huh?
