I don't know if anybody on this board works for a company that will be open on Christmas Day.. but here's the question..

If you worked for a company that was open on X-mas day.. and were asked to work that day.. would you do so..?

And my company shuts down for the week after Christmas. They are paying for 2 days this year and we have to use vacation for the other three.

Wal Mart gives holiday pay and x-mas bonuses to it's 1 year plus employees {90 days for the holiday pay}

So obviously no holiday pay or x-mas bonus here

Depends on what you do for a living, but at my current job, no. I'd tell them to pound sand.

I've worked Christmas Day in the ER. Obviously, now with an 8-5 M-F work week, I won't have to -- plus, I'll be out of town anyway, so how could they ask?

Our firm shuts down the week between Christmas and New Year's. Some years we have to take 20 hours of that as vacation, others (like this year) only 5 hours. Yippee!

It would depend on what sort of work I was engaged in whether or not I would tell my employer to "pound sand" as another member so elegantly phrased it. :rofl:

Public services..police, fire, EMT, hospital staff, SAR and FEMA know no "holidays"; neither do criminals, arsonists, lost or hurt people, natural or man-made disasters.

Think about this as you open your presents, chow down on that heavyweight feast; remember that there are people out there doing what they must, so you can enjoy the blessings of the season. :larrow:

Exactly...weather happens 24-7 so many operational meteorologists will either be working a normal shift, or will be on call...just like the rest of the civil/public servants of the gov't.

Hubby works for a casino. They'll be open and VERY busy! Since he is a big boss, and he has numberous employees working full shifts, he always goes in and works for a few hours on holidays, and lets his people know he appreciates them, and that hes not too good to go in and put in some time also. I commend him for this...he's such a good guy. We usually go in and have breakfast or lunch, whatever time he's there, so we're still together...

I can count on both hands the number of times my hubby has had Christmas off from his job in our 29 years of marriage. Recently he went on permanent day shift so he will be off for Christmas from now on. I am off for Christmas because my job has the same holidays off as the school kids do since I am a school crossing guard at the elementary school behind my house.

I've never enjoyed working on Christmas Day, but in my line of work (security officer), have done so several times over the years....working holidays comes with the job.

There are a couple of advantages to working security on Christmas...no traffic, I get paid time and a half; plus the fact it's usually a very quiet shift (as most holidays are).
