9News Anchor, on set
We've heard from many outraged mothers who asked the I-Team to follow up on the sexual assault story involving a former Newport police captain.
9News Anchor, on set
Although charged with a felony, a controversial plea deal puts Cyril Sykes on campus instead of in jail. the I-Team's Laure Quinlivan heard from a mother who fears her college daughter could be the next victim.

That's right and naturally, she wants to protect her child. So while the mother of the victim in this case tries to get her daughter medical help. This mother is trying to get the former police captain kicked off campus.
I CANNOT believe this BS! He has rights??? Not when innocent people are at risk!!!!!

This is where I go to school BTW!

What really ticked me off is that he wasn't required to register as an offender! I mean, yeah he did this to a woman but what's to stop him from doing it to men too???

That's unbelievable! Take a convicted sex offender... and send him to college as opposed to prison??
Dear lord....a campus filled with young women? That's like sending a fox to the henhouse....it's beyond outrageous!

Well you have to remember that most of us are under 21 on the campus. Even if we are legally allowed to own a gun...even if you have a concealed carry permit, you CANNOT have that gun in your possession here on campus! Quoted from the NKU Dept. of Public Safety website which is found
here:
Weapons seized by individuals, duly licensed to carry concealed weapons pursuant to KRS 237 shall be returned to said individual upon request and proof of their valid license. Return shall be made off of the university property.

I understand, Jeremy.
Have you or other students tried to get the attention of the university president about this sex offender?

Furthermore, here's a list of places where, even if you have a Concealed Carry Permit here in KY, you CANNOT carry your weapon on your person. Some of these are rather obvious, others are places I'm sure that that could be a bad thing.
A concealed firearm or other deadly weapon MAY NOT be carried in the following places:
Police station or sheriff’s office.
Detention facility, prison or jail.
Courthouse (Court of Justice, courtroom or court proceeding).
County, municipal, or special district governing body meetings.
General Assembly session, including committee meetings.
Businesses which dispense beer or other alcoholic beverages for consumption, excluding restaurants receiving 50% of sales from food purchases.
Elementary or secondary school facilities (without the consent of school authorities).
Child-caring facilities, day care centers, or any certified family child care home.
Areas within airport where restricted access is controlled by the inspection of persons or property.
Any place where the carrying of a firearm is prohibited by federal law

I have not, however the mother of the student in this report is trying to get this guy out of here. I will have to see what I can do to help out here.
EDIT: The president's address is not available. However I have found the Dept. of Public Safety's e-mail address and am e-mailing them. If anyone else would like to help me out, PM me and I will send you the addy. If we get enough people to e-mail them, maybe this decision will be reversed.

That's what I said VB. Unbelievable. As for why he was not required to register, that's what I'd like to know as well. If you read into the article further, it says he was only convicted of a misdemeanor. Misdemeanor my butt! They let his sorry @$$ plead down to that, shoulda been a FELONY! He should still be in PRISON!!!
