IRVING, Texas - An Irving police car's video camera recorded the deadly head-on crash between a car and a tanker truck early Wednesday.
Police released the dramatic video today, which shows the headlights of a car speeding down the middle lane of Highway 183 near Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
At the precise moment that the dashboard camera showed the tanker trying unsuccessfully to steer clear of the approaching car, the police radio crackled with a calm dispatcher's report of a "rolling traffic hazard" going eastbound in the westbound lanes.
The camera, in a patrol car that had been parked on the highway's shoulder, then shows a female officer looking at the impact she had just heard. She hops in the car and the unit speeds to the scene of the crash just a few hundred feet down the highway.
The driver of the wrong-way car, Samantha Chasen Lively Rodriguez, 21, died in the collision. The driver of the truck was slightly injured.
Morning rush hour traffic on Highway 183 was snarled while 9,000 gallons of fuel was transferred from the tanker.
Police are still investigating the circumstances of the accident.
WFAA ABC 8 and the Dallas Web staff contributed to this report.
