Alleged 'Knuckle Sandwich' Threat Gets Nun Fired

Woman Also Faces Harassment Charge

UPDATED: 10:03 AM EST December 16, 2004

WOODBRIDGE, N.J. -- Officials have fired a nun at a Roman Catholic school in Woodbridge who is accused of threatening to give a sixth-grader a knuckle sandwich.

Sister Catherine Iacouzze was an assistant principal and the disciplinarian at Saint Cecelia School.

The 69-year-old was relieved of her teaching duties nearly a month after she allegedly told a pupil she would knock his teeth out. The boy had allegedly used the wrong stairwell.

The Methuchen Diocese said one of its teachers spoke to one of its children in a "threatening manner." The nun is scheduled to appear in municipal court to face a harassment charge on Dec. 28.

she must have been having a bad day. but i'm curious how you can use a "wrong stairwell".... what does that mean exactly?

I've heard some horror stories about nuns from friends who went to Catholic schools that made the threat of a knuckle sandwich entirely benign.

When I lived in Cincinnati...for a while (it was either the 3rd or 4th grade...you'll have to forgive my 41 yr-old memory! lol)...anyway, to St. Frances de Salles School in a 'burb called Walnut Hills and went there because I had some learning problems (particularly in math)...there are quite a few very nice nun sisters in our society, too...I liked my school principal Str. Jerome...and also my math tutor Str. Henry (she worked with me on multiplication tables). Also, for one summer I went to a special Catholic school called Springer and received some much-needed help, too.
