Homeless Man Compacted In Garbage Truck Survives

POSTED: 3:28 pm EST December 17, 2004

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- No one knows how he did it. A homeless man fell asleep in a Dumpster, woke up inside a garbage truck -- and lived to tell about it.

The man was in a dumpster behind an Ann Arbor bar and grill when he was picked up. He wound up in the truck's compactor.

Police don't know why he wasn't seriously hurt. Sanitation workers are baffled, too. There's a large, dull steel blade that pushes the waste against the wall of truck to free up space.

They said it's possible he was protected by trash that is hard to compact. Firefighters got on top of the garbage truck and were able to get the man out.

Wait... do you hear that?... it's the sound of the stampede of ambulance chasers storming up the courthouse steps to file a lawsuit on this guy's behalf.

And it will be ABSOLUTLY rediculous if they do and better get thrown out.. Are Garbage men suppose to get out and check every dumpster for people before they dump them?
