This is why I haven't been around lately..

Last Sunday {12/12}.. I was pedalling along on my bike on my way home from work shortly after 9pm eastern. I was about a 1/2 mile from home. I had a present for my mother hanging in a shopping bag on 1 of my handlebars.

The bag somehow got caught in the front wheel. I didn't realize this till I got to make a quick stop. When I made a quick stop.. I went airborne :(. I flew over the handlebars and landed HEAD 1ST on the pavement.

When I bounced up.. thinking I was OK.. I tried to walk the bike home.. But knew I couldn't... so I ran over to a stranger across the street and had to beg him to drive me the 1/2 mile to get home..

When I got home.. I was raced to the hospital. My entire work uniform was turned red.. and I mean bright red...

I had a fat lip that got stitched up, I had a left eye that was swollen shut.. and I had numerous other injuries.

I spent the night in Kissimmee's hopsital but was later transferred to Orlando.

Nurses think it was remarkable how well I was and how I kept my spirirts up.. I got a bunch of calls and visitors.

If you're curious.. My numerous injuries were a broken nose, facial fractures, a broken bone up in my forehead, a skull fracture even, and several smaller cuts on my hands..

I spent 4 1/2 days in the Orlando hospital and was released Thursday.. I am about to make my 1st trip over to my job to go see them and to pick up my paycheck last week I didn't get..

I don't even have a follow up appt. with the doctor till 1/19 and I was told I'd need a dr's. note to go back to work..

Please be there for me in my time of need guys..I may be depressed being in bed so much and not being able to work..

Thanks for listening

Oh, my Gosh. I am so sorry. Heck of a way for you to be starting your new job and terrible way to spend your Christmas.

Take care of yourself so you can totally mend. Lounging around and chatting online with your Storm2K friends ought to help.

Sorry to hear of your injuries...but there are magical moments that can still happen at Christmastime. Words of encouragement from friends is just one of them. Sieze a moment in the next few days to share a laugh or smile or hug with someone more in need than you....and then you will come to realize that the meaning of Christmas can even be found in an accident!

Sorry to hear about that, John, and I hope you have a speedy recovery. Same thing happened to me going to school once. Wasn't hurt as bad though.

I know that this is secondary, but how did the present and the bike make out?

From now on use a backpack, or a rack on your bike.

Wearing a helmet would be a good idea also.

The bike is Ok.. Mom's present is OK.. I am not getting onto a bike for a while.. But am determined to get back on one once my injuries are healed..

I have also decided that I will consider a helmet and a backpack.. That way if I ever wanna shop when I get off work.. I can do it and just stuff the bags in there..

I went over to my job yesterday to say hello to everyone and I got a hero's welcome.. I was actually a little stunned lol.. They all miss me and can't wait for me to come back.. I told them I'll try to stop in 1x a week while I wait for my clearance to return {my dr's appt. isn't even until 1/19}

I'm trying to stay in good spirits.. I'm actually supposed to be going to the Magic/San Antonio game tonight.. Go Orlando! :)
