I have a friend Kevin who is a hunter in Zimbabwe. The poor guy has been through so much in the last few years (for those of you who are not familiar with the current situation in Zim... well it is very bad, a lot of people have been killed, lost jobs, and there is a severe gas shortage, life is very difficult for people living there)
Anyway, Kevin has been working his butt off just to feed his family. Yesterday he got a call from the main guide's office that a baboon had been wounded and was threatening the locals in a nearby village. Kevin and his tracker grabbed there guns and went off to get rid of the baboon.
The tracker found the baboon in a tree not to far from the main entrance to the safari camp, as Kevin approached the tree, the baboon jumped onto him and started attacking him, His tracker was to afraid to shoot at it incase he shot Kev, so the tracker beat him off with a stick. Kevin managed to reach his rifle and shoot the animal with his other hand. He has been very badly injured and has totally lost the use of his fingers and hand. The tendons were actually ripped out by the baboons teeth. He was rushed to the local hospital (where he refused to let them operate due to the fact that it is VERY unhygenic and the surgeons are not skilled). After managing to contact his wife she drove him to a bigger hospital and they have done what they can surgically. The big worry for us all is there is no rabies medication available..... NO ONE in the hospital will help them to trace some. Kevin needs this medication. Baboons are known rabies carriers, and I fear for Kevins life should they not be able to source any anti-rabies medication. Kevins wife is frantically trying to find the neceassry medication. Please pray she has sucess in locating some!!
