Lottery tickets
Do you play the lottery?
I think it's a big waste of money but I'm often "given" tickets so of course I hope I win something when I'm scratching them off. I never walk into the store and just purchase them. At work a few years ago, they used to give away rolls of them as part of an incentive - LOL. I won a little of course since nothing was invested on my part but just give me the bonus already!

I guess you have a better chance to win small amounts with the scratch offs, but long term, you can't win.
As far as the Lotto goes, forget it. Let me put it in perspective for you: Back before Florida tweaked the weekly lottery, it was a 49 number game, of which you had to pick six. The odds of winning were roughly 1 in 14 million.
The population of Florida was roughly 14 million. So imagine that you're given the task of locating somebody, but all you know is that this person lives in Florida. So you pick a random door to knock on somewhere in the state. The person you're looking for answers the door. That was about the odds of winning the Florida Lottery.
Now it's 1 in 22 million or so.
I haven't played it on my own in at least 10 years. Sometimes they'll get a pool going at work when it gets big, and the only reason I play is because I'd never be able to live with myself if they actually won and I didn't get in.

I love the way you put it! I don't play the lotto either. I have a better chance of saying "Jon Bon Jovi....come see me tonight!" and him hearing me and coming.

I don't remember, but it was something more than just the typical trying-to-sneak-backstage kind of thing. She wasn't threatening him or anything -- stalking is probably too harsh a term to use -- but I think she tried to pull stuff at other shows and the staff got wise to her. She was about 18 or 19 at the time and got stupid.

I played lottery tickets (scratch-off tickets, etc.), but found that I had slipped into the same bad habits that I had a few years ago. One MUST use caution with money, and only spend what they can afford w/out disrupting other more important things.
a matter of fact, I hopefully bought my last ticket 2 days ago since it's my one sole NY resolution, and fortunately, I struck gold with a $500 scratch-off on a $10 card ($40 million spectacular) on the last day of 2004 ... out of 6,000,000 cards, there are only 850 $500 winners that all 20 numbers are winners with a $25 winner for each matching number.

Nice. Now you can say you went away a winner.
