Don't Know if it's Post-Holiday Let-Down.....

#1 Postby JenBayles » Sat Jan 01, 2005 5:02 pm

......or what, but I just can't get real excited about ringing in the new year in the face of all the tsunami deaths. Our neighbors were talking about the same thing last night; hence the waaayyyy toned-down celebration compared to previous years.

We are so blessed in this country and I can't even begin to fathom the kind of crushing poverty most of those people endure, and now this tragedy. I can't be so arrogant as to say I begin to comprehend their situation. Here, we get disappointed if we don't have a party to go to on New Year's Eve; maybe we didn't get exactly the gift we wanted for Christmas; if we don't live in the "right" part of town, we think we're lacking somehow; we all want want want want want, and still think we're deprived. I'm counting every blessed blessing I have this year.

Sorry, must be the pain drugs that have me waxing philosophical.

An excellent way of looking at it Jen! :) No it's not the meds "talking".

Even while watching the "New Year's Rockin' Eve" it seemed soooo much more low-keyed in a sense...with what has happened to all those Asian nations affected.

At least for me in my lifetime that I am truly aware...this has got to be the WORST natural disaster in Biblical proportions! :(

Of course the GREAT Earthquake talked about in Revelation will be the Mother of ALL quakes...BUT...this Asian quake and tsunamis (in terms of Pre-tribulation) is what I'm trying to say...is the worst in that sense.

It really makes one stop and think a while, that is for sure!! Like Jen said, there is not one of us on this site that can even fathom the incredible poverty so many of those affected by the Earthquake and Tsunami live under, much less the horrendous destruction that has occurred, even though we watch it on our tv. We truly are blessed and need to remember that every time we begin to complain about something!

My afternoon took a TERRIBLE turn, had a MAJOR water line break UNDER the HOUSE UNDERGROUND no less :red:.....had to call a plumber ($$$$$), then something HIT me....I got to thinking just how MINOR "my" problems were compared to the tsunami survivors and victims, needless to say, my anger QUICKLY left and felt LUCKY actually! The way we found the water leak was the water bill, I called, said there was NO WAY we could have used 42,000 GALLONS of water, turned off the water at the house, looked at the water meter, it was SPINNING like CRAZY.......called the plummer, he was here in "10 MINUTES", he used to be K9 SAR too, cut us some slack (BIG TIME actually) on the bill, leak is fixed and LIFE is GOOD!

Sorry about the leak Dennis.... Thats not a fun thing to have to deal with.

My new year was very quiet, spent with hubby and the kiddies.

I too had a feeling of greatfulness for what I have when the clock hit 12. I could not help but feel a sadness for those who ushered in a new year with the freshness of loss of life still so raw to them, it must be very difficult, and quite beyond my comprehension.
