SUPER GOOD NEWS!!

This past semester, I realized my graduate research was turning into much more than I had bargained for (waaaay too much computer programming) and was rather inapplicable with regards to my career aspirations, so I began searching for a position in the field of meteorology. I applied for around 10 jobs, and had some luck with call backs and such. One such call back lead to an interview a few weeks ago with a company in Madison, WI called Weather Central, Inc.
The interview went very well, and this past Thursday I was offered a job as a Quality Control Operator - it basically involves quality control of meteorological data (radar and satellite from NOAA, etc.) as it is being dispersed to television markets that use Weather Central's graphics (i.e. Genesis and many others). Basically, I'll be getting paid to look at (and correct) radar and satellite data, which is what I do everyday anyway.
I'm really excited about this, although it means leaving my boyfriend of 3 years back in Indiana - that's about the only downside to this job, and it's a major one, but we'll be back together soon enough and Madison is only 4-5 hours from Lafayette. The position is basically what I've been looking for, but the opportunities for advancement and growth seem endless with this company, and there are numerous other positions I see myself in, in the not so distant future. The benefits are excellent as well.
I'm actually in Madison now visiting a friend and looking for an apartment, although I won't start working until the 20th. Once I get back from the AMS annual meeting in San Diego, I'll have to pack up and move out, provided I've found a place to live. Madison is a great city, and I'm soooo excited to get out of Indiana. Been there all my life and love my family to death, but people in IN are generally much too conservative for my tastes. Luckily, Madison is one of the most liberal cities in the Midwest (or country for that matter) and it's considered one of the best places for young people to live. People here are very health-conscious, outgoing, and just plain ole nice. Crime rates are very low and the unemployment rate hovers around 1%, which is clearly better than most of the country. In any event, I'm excited to be moving to Madison if you can't tell.
