Flags at half-staff this week

I noticed the flags in front of the hospital are at half-staff today. UTMB's higher-ups have sometimes lowered flags (including the US flag) in honor of recently deceased physicians or staff, which I protested some time ago since it is against the Flag Code.

So, I was a bit confuzzled when I saw them flying low today until I did a Yahoo News search for "flags lowered" and hit this:

Have you lowered your flags today?

I heard that President Bush had ordered flags at half-staff. So I have lowered mine to half-staff as well.

Yup, that's what the article mentions. I must have missed it this weekend on the news since they had about half a gazillion marathons on the various cable networks.

Thats the only good thing about tragedies, they bring people together. Its across the scale too, whether its a death in a family, 9/11, or the tsunami.

I lowered my flag when I went home for lunch. I noticed at the banks and at the courthouse the flags are flying at half staff. I am sure the police station here is doing this too.

Thanks for the reminder Duckie!
