LOL! Well, forget my post in the other thread...I just got my answer here!

My best friend's hubby likes to make it (california rolls, tekka maki, sashimi, and so forth). Or we like to get it when we eat out. I love the stuff...even raw! You just have to get sushi grade fish if you make it yourself.

Cucumber rolls are a favorite here. My kids love them! Sometimes we make combinations using carrots or scallions too. Believe it or not, cucumber rolls were one of the only things I could keep down at the beginning of my second pregnancy!

LOL @ Sandi....ya know, believe it or not, it's NOT that HARD, the hardest part is getting the rice to the right consistancy, I use a ratio of 1 to 1 (one cup water/one cup rice) AND getting the Nori just right (soak it in water for 1-2 seconds, just enough to make it pliable, then the stuffing, it's UP to your liking! I mainly do shrimp, cod, Ahai Tuna (fish is cooked on the grill with apple wood!) YUM.....I'm STARVIN' NOW!

Forgot one thing, when the rice is done, add 3 tblspns of rice vinegar/1 tblspn of sugar per cup of cooked rice, mix well, also, add a dash of salt to the rice vinegar/sugar mix and refrigerate for 2-3 hours before hand, it rolls easier!

It's a mental thing with me....i still think of sushi as raw fish and cannot bring myself to taste it. Just the thought of it makes my stomach roll!

Not to brag or nothin' like that, but you'd LOVE my sushi sis! We've got a orential friend, GOOD friend, we've had him over for sushi quite a few times, trust me, he's so honest, if he didn't like it, he'd DANG sure let me know, in fact, he was my mentor so to speak, I make it, take it to him, he'd critique it, tell me what I needed to change!

Sushi means vinegared rice; sashimi is raw fish.

You can get so many different kinds of sushi rolls without the raw stuff (which is usually tuna, salmon, or white tail). The crab, shrimp, and eel are cooked before they go into rolls (either boiled or fried). Or, you can get the veggie rolls.

You just need an expert to take you out, set you down, and introduce you to it slowly and at your pace. You don't HAVE to ever eat the raw stuff, if you don't want to try it, but like I said, there's plenty of other good stuff out there that's called "sushi" that isn't raw.

Agreed. People just don't know what they're missing.

I still don't get how people can eat...the difference between a bull and a steer.

"ROCKY MOUNTAIN OYSTERS?" I LOVE 'EM........fresh from the bag, PAPER BAG that is "LOL!" Yeah, I've ate my share of Rocky Mountain Oysters, fresh no less....you see, branding, cutting the calves from their mama's and THE cutting happens here in April, my sister has 690 head of White Face Herefords, I help every year, branding, *cutting*, throw 'em in the fire with the brandin irons, YES....we still brand, not tag the ears!

We make various types of Sushi at home (and also eat Sushi in restaurants).

We have a Japanese rice cooker, which makes rice preparation easier.

Also, find "powdered vinegar" in an Asian store--easier to work with than regular rice vinegar... especially if you are in a hurry. Also, they have powderd "instant" wasabi mix... handy.

Any kim-chee fans out there? Bulgogi fans?
