Alright, I let my dang boat sit for too long and now im having problesm.. Its an old Johnson and its a 10hp.. I can get it to start after working on it for a while.. However I can not get it to stay running.. If I rev it it will continue to run.. But if I allow it to just idle it shuts off on me.. Anybody out there have any tips for me?

sounds like the carburetor needs cleaning...or worst case replacing. I store my bayliner outside in the winter with a 125hp outboard and it never fails I have to have the carb. cleaned come spring time from lack of run time during the winter.

Could be bad gas or the jets are clogged. Have you tried cleaning the carb?

clean carbs and call me in the morning, or stand on one foot crank the sucker up, and point upwards with your left hand and scream "yes."
agree - clean carb or bad gas

You probably need to clean or even rebuild carburerator.
However, the problem with lots of motors is bad gas. We use gas stabilizer in gas that goes in small engines--but do burn off gas anyway at the end of the season wherever possible--all small gas engines.

sounds like it't time to buy a new 20 hp outboard. Waddayasay Mrs. Chad?
