Cross stitchers?

Do we have any cross stitchers on the board? It is one of my hobbies. I have several pieces on my walls already!

I can sew, more than just a button.
Tried cross stitching once, it just wasn't for me. My mom was the expert crochetter (sp?) when her eyesight was good still and tried teaching this craft, but again sewing seemed to be my thing.
The one craft I'd love to learn is quilting - on a machine, not by hand (no, I'm not the quilting bee type, LOL). I see these beautiful, hand made quilts and think - now that is something if I took a few classes, I could do!

I crochet, too. I make afghans for all the new babies in the family - which is many!

The neat thing about cross stitching, as well as knitting or crochetting, is you can take these crafts with you. On car/plane trips, waiting for doctor appts., etc. I can't take sewing with me.
Knitting seems to be very popular now. So much so that my 17 year old signed up for a community class, for teens who want to learn how to knit. Of course they all want to knit scarves, another very popular accessory item these days. They are making scarves out of the neatest yarn or sometimes, it's not even yarn. I saw a sample scarf someone made at Hancock Fabrics the other day and told the clerk, you know you could sell that to any teen girl right now. She said oh I know, we've been asked if it's for sale. It was knitted with multi colored string, that was about 3/8 inch wide, flat, it was so cool. Make that - kewl!!!

I also knit. I also do the blanket thing for all the new babies in the family.
I have two trunks of cross stitch projects. Also love embroidery and needlepoint.

I taught myself how to knit a few years ago.
But my cross-stitch is my passion! I work on linen and have gotten into the bead work. Don't tell anyone, but when I evacuated last year for Ivan, I took my cross-stitch pieces with me!!!

In the past I was a x-stitch fanatic. In fact, I've had four lovely stitched framed shell pieces in my powder room in every home I've lived in. (Who knew when I stitched them way back then I'd eventually end up living by the ocean!) I loved to stitch gifts for people I love. For example, my widowed stepmother just sent back to me two pieces I custom designed and stitched for my dad several years ago, which was so sweet of her and so meaningful to me.
As I've taken on more teaching hours, unfortunately, my projects have been limited to one or two small Christmas ornaments from kits, if I'm lucky to make the time. Just reading this thread (no pun intended) makes me want to dig out my big old box of pattern books and thread palettes which is buried somewhere in the recesses of a closet right now (instead of reading all the essays I collected during yesterday's classes...).
I also have crocheted, which I find very soothing; however, I've only tried baby blankets because (1)they're small and (2)my skill is rather limited. I'd also like to learn to knit and possibly quilt someday.
Wouldn't it be fun to could have a real S2K needlework (aka "Stitch-n-B****") circle? Y'all could come down to my house in SoFla for the first meeting! "Hotel B" still has a few weekends in Feb. and March open, although most are "booked" with relatives/friends who love to get away from the worst of Northern winter. (I'm not complaining -- I absolutely love company! )

I know what you mean about limited time, Dee Bee! But I think I enjoy it more because of the limited time. If I had all the time in the world, I would probably get bored!! One of my cross-stitch projects took me one year. I have a huge Oak Alley above my sofa. My favorite piece is my Millennium Angel - I love angels!
An S2K needlework cirlce would be fun - we'll grab depotoo, as well!!
