so there's research money to create hybrid "things" but not stem cell research to cure some of the most horrendous diseases and conditions on the planet. i guess i just dont get it.

ok - that goes waaaay over the line in my opinion! i see the intent but it is things like this that create monsters in the sense that who knows what could happen!!!!

Someone needs to stop this nonsense.

These scientists are either in it for the recognition or else they are so far "out there" that they are not human themselves.

Its only the cellular level before it grows big enough to have differentiated and specialized cells.

The genetics wouldn't be viable for a macrosized version of this. So its not a monster, its just genetic manipulation really.

If it produces stem cells, and leads us to understand development better, I'm for it.

They need to spend their time and money researching something that makes sense. What are these people thinking?

They are probably looking at development, the growing of organs, cellular communication... things of those sorts. Just because it sounds crazy doesn't mean it isn't worth while.

I know with mice they take out a little blood at a time and inject formaldahide, until the only part of the mouse that is functioning is the brain and the heart. Then they go in a gently 'kill' the heart. An undamaged brain is the result.. and it is quickly dissected and examined.

So, I guess my point is, it makes sense. Anytime we get closer to manipulation of cells its an advance for medicine. Doctors don't heal people, they never have... your cells heal you and the Dr's help them along.
