No tatoos here. And I think I've successfully convinced my children that they're not a good idea.
True story: This past summer we were driving down the road. Stopped at a traffic light next to us was a 60+ weathered and wrinkled looking man on a Harley. This guy's arms were covered with tattoos (which might have looked OK once upon a time but don't now). Daughter (9 at the time) pointed at him and said "ewwww, Mom....now I know why you don't want us to get tattoos. They look gross on old people".
I told her "YEP". That's EXACTLY why you shouldn't ever get one. They might look good when you're young...but they don't when you get older.
So....hopefully my twins will not be interested in a few year's time (and I'm hoping they won't be nearly so en vogue by then either).

I have 2. Left bicep - Red Sox logo with 1918 above it, and 2004 below it.
Right bicep - Fancy initials J & C combined with a tribal kind of design around it with 2 small rings and 1 large ring signifying our unification for life. The J & C was my design, the surrounding tatoo was the artist's.
Neglible pain if done in fleshy areas but once you are over some boneage...be prepared to grimace some.
