Most of us love making a nice salad. What is one thing you won't put in your salad that other people just love in their salad ?????
I don't like bleu cheese or feta cheese in mine.

Can't think of one item not to put in my salads. Hot peppers make me cough and wheez if they touch my skin, and I guess I could be slightly allergic to them, so they would be out. Maybe something spicy too. Otherwise I love all salads!
Here's a summer tip: go to an Olive Garden Restaurant, buy a bottle of their italian dressing, only $4. Comes in a neat looking bottle too, to save for later. Anyway, make their salad just the way they do, buy some gourmet shredded italian cheese (in the plastic tubs, like romano), and croutons. Pre-toss the salad with dressing, top with cheese and croutons and serve in a glass bowl. You will receive so many compliments! I've made this salad twice now and I even have to bring extra in a ziplock bag, it goes so fast. Each time I've made it, I feel guilty asking for the bottle back. So I leave it, thinking oh if only they'd offer it back to me. Seems everyone loves this salad dressing! My kids want me to make it on a regular basis, not just for special occasions!
Sorry to derail the topic a bit, just thought I'd share this tip.

Well cy, the black olives are a major part of the Olive Garden salad....but you can skip them, if that would help. In fact, I put two whole cans of them in this salad. People can't get enough of them. In the Restaurant my kids fight over them.....think you only get 3 in the bowl. And I give mine up....Mother's do that ya know.
Wow, you were a tortured young fellow Cy!!!
My brother's told me your blood is blue until it hits the air and then it turns red. I believed that for years, since ya know your veins are blue......sorry for that nasty tid-bit. I'm bad today....derailing topics right and left.

lol..Thats one of my truly favorite slads Miss Mary...you can come to one of our dinner parties anyday and bring that along with you! YUM!
I like very plain salads, I only eat the lettuce, cheese, crutons and eggs...but I like to recieve a pretty salad with everything in it, and pick the veggies out....
The one thing that totally ruins a salad for me is a mushy "sliced" tomato...yuck...the little tomato insides get all over the lettuce....

No chickpeas for me, thank you. When I eat out, I go light on the lettuce and load up on the good stuff.

Hey here's a question for you all: what do you think of the new lettuce wedges that are becoming more popular? They're served with bleu cheese dressing. Noticed Cooker has added them to their revamped menu. A wedge of iceberg lettuce is pretty darn plain, IMO.

I actually like it, being the plain salad eater that I am, but I like the wedge served with a balsamic vinegarette myself...you think of Great salads Mary! I also will always favor the traditional ceasar salad....preferably made w/o the anchovie paste!

I've never had the wedges Mary, I'll
have to give it a try next time I'm at Cooker.
I had Olive Garden salad last Sunday, yum !
Texas Roadhouse also has an excellent garden
salad, I usually have their Bleu Cheese dressing
on it which is also great.
I agree with furry that mushed up tomato
innerds ruin a salad, it coats the lettuce and
ruins the whole thing. I prefer the little
whole tomatos unchopped

Fur, agree about the mushy tomatoes. I make a 7 layer taco dip for parties that calls for chopped tomatoes. I buy Roma ones and make slices longways on the outsides, and scoop out the filling. Wash them too. Then all seeds and soft pulp are gone. You can't do this with other tomatoes, Roma's seem to be the only firm ones you can slice/chop this way. And they look nice in that layer salad too! I've only made that dip about 20 times thru the years......
